About the Role

As Founding Design Engineer, you will decide how CodeSpeak's program model looks, build it, and ship it. You are the missing piece to the core engineering team, bringing essential design-engineering skills to visualize and interact with complex developer information.

Responsibilities

Own how people interact with CodeSpeak across CLI, web, and future platforms.
Design interfaces, build prototypes, decide on UX, and ship the results.
Harden prototypes for production, ensuring performance and product quality.
Ship features to production independently.
Visualize CodeSpeak's new, higher-level program model.
Visualize codebase architecture, components, diffs, and code reviews.
Create interfaces for navigating requirements, mapping them to code, and exploring changes over time.
Develop interfaces for browsing agent sessions, finding contradictions, and editing requirements.
Find tasks and clarify requirements without waiting for a brief.
Work directly with the founder and engineering team to create product experiences.
Participate in design meetings and explain/defend design decisions.
Argue for tasks and accept team disagreements gracefully.

Requirements

Ability to design, prototype, and ship interfaces independently.
Strong design taste demonstrated through a portfolio showcasing UX, interaction design, information architecture, and visual hierarchy.
Experience making complex information or data models easy to read (e.g., dense dashboards, tools that read/write).
Solid computer science and software engineering fundamentals.
Proficiency in TypeScript and deep experience with modern UI frameworks like React.
At least 3 years of experience delivering production software.
Understanding of engineer's problems as users.
Ability to articulate design choices with clear reasoning.
Curiosity and self-direction, with a passion for improving programming.
Proactive in gathering requirements and finding projects.
Active use of AI-powered coding tools to improve workflow.
Willingness to work hard and be available when needed.
Fast thinking and clear explanation of reasoning.
Russian language proficiency is a priority.
Experience with complex data visualization is a plus.
Understanding of early-stage startup dynamics is a plus.
