About the Role

Lead a team of engineers building a new generation of AI-powered products, including conversational interfaces, autonomous research agents, and data-to-action tools. You will set technical direction, own architecture, and mentor engineers while remaining hands-on in coding. Partner with political researchers, data scientists, and product stakeholders to define and build these systems, ensuring readiness before peak pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of engineers building end-to-end products where agents and humans work together, from early prototypes through production.
  • Own the technical direction and architecture for LLM-powered systems: agents, retrieval, evaluation, and the infrastructure that keeps them reliable and fast.
  • Stay hands-on: write production code, review designs and pull requests, and unblock the team on the hardest problems.
  • Set the engineering bar for the team, including code quality, testing, observability, and how we evaluate AI output.
  • Establish how the team uses AI tools and coding agents to move fast without compromising quality.
  • Work closely with political researchers, data scientists, and other engineers to turn ambiguous problems into clear plans and simple, usable software.
  • Mentor and grow engineers through feedback, pairing, and code review, and help hire the people who will join the team.
  • Plan and sequence work across the cycle so systems are ready before pressure peaks, and make tradeoff calls when deadlines are tight.
  • Dive into political strategy to build systems that encode a deep understanding of user goals and thought processes.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • 2+ years as a tech lead or engineering lead.
  • Track record of shipped products.
  • Hands-on experience building products on top of LLMs.
  • Strong product instincts.
  • Ability to make engineers around them better through mentorship, thoughtful processes, and clear technical writing.
  • Energized by ambiguous problems and can turn them into a plan a team can execute.
  • Motivated by Blue Rose Research's mission and interested in learning the progressive political ecosystem.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work lawfully in the United States.
