About the Role

Define the technical foundation for Procore's mobile experiences across iOS, Android, and backend/cloud services. Shape the next generation of mobile and cross-platform strategy, including shared logic, a federated GraphQL backend-for-frontend layer, and Mobile Platform capabilities. Establish strategic technical direction, create reference patterns, and drive execution. This is a high-visibility opportunity to reduce duplicated effort, harden architecture, and improve customer value.

Responsibilities

  • Own the multi-year technical vision and architecture for Procore's mobile platform, spanning native iOS and Android, cross-platform shared logic (e.g., Kotlin Multiplatform), and the GraphQL federated backend-for-frontend layer.
  • Set architectural direction, standards, and patterns for building mobile features once and sharing across platforms.
  • Shape the technical strategy across core Mobile Platform capabilities such as offline-first data sync, CI/CD, observability, and security posture.
  • Act as a top technical authority on mobile, cloud, and backend design decisions including subgraph architecture, data ownership boundaries, and API contracts.
  • Serve as a force multiplier: mentor and grow engineers, cultivate technical leaders, and raise the engineering bar.
  • Partner with backend, platform, and infrastructure teams to ensure cloud services and APIs support mobile scale, performance, and security requirements.
  • Remain hands-on where it matters most: prototyping architectural bets, unblocking initiatives, and writing exemplar code and design documents.
  • Write production-quality code and build proofs-of-concept personally to validate new architectural directions.
  • Partner directly with leadership to shape mobile and platform strategy and translate objectives into a technical roadmap.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in computer science, a related field, or comparable work experience.
  • 15+ years of software engineering experience building and operating large-scale, distributed systems, including mobile (iOS and/or Android), cloud, and backend services.
  • 5+ years operating at Principal level or above with cross-team or organization-wide technical scope.
  • Deep, current expertise across native mobile development (Swift/iOS, Kotlin/Java/Android) and modern backend/cloud stacks (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Java, Go, Node.js; GraphQL, REST, distributed systems design).
  • Hands-on experience with cross-platform mobile architecture (e.g., Kotlin Multiplatform) and with GraphQL federation or backend-for-frontend (BFF) patterns at scale.
  • Broad exposure to Mobile Platform capabilities such as offline-first sync, mobile CI/CD, observability, or mobile security posture.
  • A track record of defining and delivering multi-year technical strategies that materially changed the trajectory of a mobile or platform organization.
  • A demonstrated bias toward writing code, not just architecture diagrams, comfortable personally building proofs-of-concept and spikes.
  • Demonstrated interest or hands-on experience in AI-native engineering: integrating AI tooling into the SDLC or into mobile/backend products.
  • Exceptional judgment in navigating ambiguity: ability to identify problems, frame them, and drive decisions.
  • Strong communication and influence skills: comfortable presenting technical strategy to mixed audiences and aligning stakeholders.
