About the Role
As a Design Manager, you will coordinate multidisciplinary design teams on aviation projects, manage information flow, support technical decisions, and ensure designs meet project requirements from development through construction and handover.
Responsibilities
- Manage the design process across one or more aviation projects.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary design teams and specialist consultants.
- Develop and maintain design programmes and deliverables schedules.
- Support design reviews and technical workshops.
- Identify and manage design risks, constraints, and interfaces.
- Ensure designs meet project, operational, and statutory requirements.
- Work closely with project managers, commercial teams, and construction teams to support delivery.
- Review design information for completeness, coordination, and timely issuance.
- Manage design changes and support impact assessments.
- Coordinate stakeholder reviews, comments, and approvals.
- Support procurement activities through design development and technical input.
- Monitor design progress and report on performance, risks, and key actions.
- Support asset information and handover requirements throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Experience managing design activities within construction, infrastructure, or aviation projects.
- Knowledge of design management processes across project delivery stages.
- Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders and technical disciplines.
- Strong understanding of design risk, change management, and project controls.
- Good communication and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge of construction methodologies and the relationship between design and delivery.
- Experience working on aviation projects.
- Experience within live operational or highly regulated environments.
- Membership of a relevant professional institution.
- Experience managing BIM processes and design coordination activities.
- Knowledge of design assurance and technical approval requirements.
