About the Role
The Senior Financial Analyst, Finance Operations will sit at the intersection of business intelligence and finance, focusing approximately 70% on BI and 30% on finance. This role involves writing SQL, designing data models, and building reporting for finance leaders, while also understanding the financial data to identify and explain discrepancies. The position will contribute to automating manual processes, improving data quality, and expanding reporting capabilities as the company grows.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain finance data models that serve as a trusted source of truth for planning, forecasting, and reporting.
- Replace manual data loads and spreadsheet processes with repeatable, systematic pipelines.
- Design dashboards and reports for close, budget versus actuals, forecasting, and executive reporting.
- Define and govern key finance and business metrics so they are calculated consistently across the organization.
- Reconcile reporting to source systems and the general ledger, and resolve data issues before they reach stakeholders.
- Work with FP&A, Accounting, and Data Engineering to turn finance questions into data requirements and deliver solutions.
- Bring BI discipline to a finance team, including documentation, testing, version control, and data quality.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics engineering, or financial analysis.
- At least 3 years writing SQL in a production setting.
- Advanced SQL skills, including complex joins, window functions, CTEs, and performance tuning on large datasets.
- Understanding of BI best practices, including dimensional modeling (star schemas, conformed dimensions, slowly changing dimensions), semantic layers, and data governance.
- Experience building dashboards and reports in a modern BI tool such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or Sigma.
- Solid finance fundamentals, including the three financial statements, P&L structure, budgeting and forecasting cycles, budget-versus-actuals analysis, and month-end close.
- Ability to reconcile data to the general ledger and explain variances to finance stakeholders.
- Deep familiarity with AI tools, skills, and agents, and use sound judgment about how and when to apply AI in your work.
- Clear communication skills, able to explain technical trade-offs to finance partners and finance logic to engineers.
- Strong sense of ownership and treat changes to finance data with care.
