About the Role
Provides a clean and safe environment for patients, visitors, and staff through various tasks. Responsibilities may vary daily based on department and hospital needs.
Responsibilities
- Receives daily assignments and reports to the assigned area.
- Selects appropriate cleaning materials and supplies, loads service cart, or prepares equipment and cleaning solution.
- Follows prescribed health guidelines in accomplishing assigned responsibilities.
- Cleans equipment at the end of the shift to maintain good operating condition and notifies the supervisor of any needed repairs.
- Reports mechanical failures or negative conditions observed in any building area to a supervisor or uses established reporting mechanisms.
- Participates in emergency procedures, performing assigned tasks.
- Performs periodic irregular duties as requested and/or assigned.
- Demonstrates sound judgment in carrying out different tasks and determining priorities of daily tasks.
- Completes assigned tasks within the appropriate time period.
- Operates autoclave, when assigned, in the prescribed manner to properly treat medical waste.
- Interfaces with boiler mechanic(s) to ensure observation of all safety regulations when/if assigned to operate the autoclave.
- Maintains and cares for hospital grounds, rakes leaves, picks up refuse for disposal, and spreads salt and participates in snow removal as required when/if assigned.
- Performs all aspects of cleaning spills related to patients, visitors, and staff, including liquids, food, bodily fluids, and fecal material.
- Empties linen hampers and disposes of soiled linen in specialty areas as required by section need.
- Empties all soiled linen generated as a result of patient discharge cleaning procedures.
- Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED Required.
- Ability to follow oral and/or written instructions (High proficiency).
Skills
- Customer service experience preferred.
