About the Role
Valius is building the diagnostics and bioinformatics company to power the future of cancer care, starting with maximalist diagnostics for patients with challenging cancers. We are seeking a Founding Engineer to build the technical foundation of Valius, working directly with the founders and science team to define and build the infrastructure and products that bring molecular insights to life. This role spans the full stack, from AI-powered front-end interfaces to back-end architecture and data pipelines.
Responsibilities
- Shape technical direction and roadmap by partnering with the founding and science teams.
- Own architecture, infrastructure, and pipelines, making key decisions on system design, cloud infrastructure, data pipelines, and security/compliance.
- Build and maintain systems for ingesting, processing, and managing patient molecular data.
- Develop intuitive front-end applications with AI-powered interfaces for exploring complex molecular data.
- Collaborate with computational biologists to build tools that accelerate their work.
- Uphold engineering rigor by writing clean, well-tested code and setting high standards for reliability and maintainability.
- Contribute to cross-functional initiatives and provide an engineering perspective on company-level decisions.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong full-stack foundation with depth in back-end systems, data infrastructure, and cloud architecture.
- Front-end experience.
- Experience making architectural decisions.
- Track record of taking ownership and shipping features end-to-end.
- Strong product instincts and ability to shape roadmaps with non-engineering stakeholders.
- Strong communication skills.
- Excitement for working in a fast-moving, early-stage environment with an evolving role scope.
- Experience in or exposure to life sciences, genomics, bioinformatics, or a related field.
