About the Role
David AI is seeking an in-house audio expert to set audio standards, guide contributors and vendors, and manage the hardware and studio aspects of recording work. This role reports to the Head of Operations.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary audio authority for Operations, Engineering, and ML teams.
- Establish audio quality standards and recording specifications for various programs.
- Assist contributors in diagnosing and resolving issues with their home recording setups.
- Develop clear setup guides, onboarding checks, and troubleshooting documentation for global use.
- Lead and calibrate a team to meet company audio standards, identifying root causes of audio issues and recommending solutions.
- Define acoustic targets for processed, synthetic, or AI-generated audio and evaluate output against these targets.
- Collaborate with ML researchers to define audio events and acoustic quality issues.
- Translate audio definitions into actionable guidelines for audio QAs.
- Manage the QA team in a rapid iteration loop for labeling audio samples and refining the annotation process.
- Conduct quality audits on annotation and post-processing models prior to production deployment.
Requirements
- 7+ years in audio engineering, recording, or production (studio, broadcast, podcast, post, or voice work).
- A highly trained ear for subtle differences across voices, mics, rooms, and signal chains.
- Deep hands-on knowledge of microphones, interfaces, preamps, acoustics, and room treatment.
- Strong DAW skills and fluency with loudness/metering, EQ, dynamics, noise reduction, and restoration tools (e.g., iZotope RX).
- Ability to troubleshoot remotely and explain fixes clearly to non-technical individuals.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with ambiguous problems, shifting priorities, and a high degree of ownership.
