About the Role
As a Senior Data Engineer at Circle, you will own the data pipelines and models critical for product, treasury, finance, accounting, and compliance teams. You will transform large-scale on-chain and internal data into trustworthy datasets, contributing to data reliability and supporting the company's mission to be a world-class, data-driven organization.
Responsibilities
- Partner with cross-functional teams to define data requirements, models, business logic, and pipelines for new products and regulations.
- Develop a deep understanding of business financial operations, including custody, reserves, and reconciliation, to enhance data transparency.
- Build frameworks and systems for monitoring data quality, including reconciliation, checks, and alerting, and lead resolution efforts.
- Work with large-scale on-chain data, ingesting and modeling data from multiple blockchains while managing complexities like reorgs and schema changes.
- Collaborate with analytics and data science colleagues to ensure data products are documented, trustworthy, and fit for purpose.
- Build scalable automated solutions using SQL, Python, orchestration and transformation tooling, and AI.
- Review code, models, and designs, and mentor junior engineers.
- Share work with broader audiences to educate them on data and financial systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or technical field (Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Finance or similar), or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of experience building and operating production data pipelines and models.
- Proficiency in SQL and Python.
- Experience with a modern data stack: a cloud data warehouse, an orchestrator such as Airflow, and a transformation tool such as dbt.
- Experience owning a data domain end to end.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical systems to non-technical audiences.
- Strong collaboration skills to ensure alignment across product engineering, data, finance, accounting, treasury, and compliance teams.
- A strong sense of ownership and accountability for triaging, investigating, and resolving data issues.
- Experience with blockchain data, financial services, banking, or other regulated industries is a plus.
