About the Role
CP24/CTV Toronto is seeking a dynamic and experienced news producer to deliver content in a fast-paced, multi-platform environment, thriving in breaking news situations. This role is crucial for leading the charge in delivering breaking news and informing residents of the GTHA.
Responsibilities
- Identify, build, element, and execute the on-air output of CP24/CTV Toronto during specified periods.
- Generate original story ideas for execution.
- Determine the daily editorial direction and execution of coverage.
- Collaborate with and assign editorial team members to define and execute content and coverage.
- Ensure CP24/CTV Toronto delivers the latest developments in major news stories and covers breaking news quickly and accurately.
- Vet scripts, video, audio, and banners.
- Ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to CTV News standards of all material.
- Take live events to air and participate in future planning for major events.
- Monitor wires, social media, e-mail, and all other outlets for news updates or story ideas.
- Participate in news editorial meetings.
- Stay current with news broadcasting trends on all platforms.
- Work evening and weekend shifts as assigned.
Requirements
- Degree/Diploma in Broadcast Journalism.
- Excellent skills and extensive experience as a live control room producer.
- Experience in managing news coverage.
- Experience in developing and structuring news coverage.
- Experience in vetting scripts.
- Superior news judgment and broadcast writing skills.
- Knowledge of digital writing.
- Excellent knowledge of news and current affairs.
- Excellent command of the English language.
- Excellent decision-making and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet strict deadlines while maintaining strong editorial judgment and creativity.
- Excellent communication skills – oral and written.
- Ability to lead a team, motivate staff, and personally set the highest professional standards.
- Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
