About the Role
The Landlord Liaison serves a key role in engaging landlords and property managers to secure units for households exiting homelessness through the City of Binghamton’s Open Doors, Safe Spaces program. This role involves identifying rental units, educating on subsidy programs, and facilitating negotiations. Collaboration with industry partners and the Encampment Response Project Manager is expected to build an inventory of suitable units.
Responsibilities
- Identify viable properties, property managers, and property owners for engagement.
- Engage landlords and property managers regarding rehousing assistance and unit requirements.
- Secure lease commitments for immediate and near-term available units.
- Negotiate reduced screening criteria and/or documentation requirements with landlords and property managers.
- Provide feedback to leadership on resources needed to achieve team objectives.
- Foster meaningful engagement with landlords and property managers through community/industry meetings and educational opportunities.
- Develop or identify an inventory management system and ensure accurate data entry and updates.
- Facilitate Housing Team meetings and/or presentations on engagement and inventory progress.
- Perform routine evaluations of landlord engagement outcomes and implement improvements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 3+ years of related experience in a housing-related field (real estate, affordable housing, sales and marketing, property management, etc.).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Clear and effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to climb stairs, bend, stoop, sit, stand, reach, and lift items weighing 40 lbs.
- Ability to operate a vehicle legally in NYS.
