About the Role

We are seeking a founding hire, a Staff Data Scientist in Marketing Science, to own the mathematics behind our paid growth. This role involves designing and implementing causal measurement, response curves, customer-value models, and optimization strategies for our multi-million-dollar acquisition budget across various platforms. You will be responsible for determining the optimal allocation of marketing spend to maximize profit, designing experiments to validate models, and working closely with the paid acquisition team.

Responsibilities

  • Build our marketing measurement system, including a Bayesian marketing mix model with adstock and saturation, channel-level response curves, and full uncertainty.
  • Separate attributed from incremental results by designing and analyzing geo-experiments, conversion-lift tests, holdouts, and synthetic-control studies.
  • Translate model outputs into budget decisions by estimating marginal ROAS and marginal CAC by channel, and running constrained budget optimization.
  • Develop LTV, retention, and payback models tied to activation and trading activity to optimize for profit.
  • Create defensible approaches for measuring newer or opaque channels where lift tooling is thin or missing.
  • Collaborate with the Head of Paid Acquisition & Performance Marketing to set test roadmaps, define success metrics, and decide on scaling or stopping strategies.
  • Ship production-quality, versioned, tested, and reproducible code, partnering with Data Engineering on model input requirements.
  • Explain uncertainty plainly through decision memos for founders and operators, including when further testing is needed.

Requirements

  • Advanced quantitative training (PhD, MSc, or equivalent depth) in mathematics, statistics, econometrics, physics, or operations research.
  • 4+ years of hands-on experience (including PhD research) with a proven track record of building marketing mix or advertising response models that influenced real budgets.
  • Hands-on causal inference experience, including designing, running, and analyzing incrementality experiments.
  • Deep Bayesian modeling expertise, including hierarchical models, justifiable priors, identification, posterior diagnostics, and computational efficiency.
  • Strong proficiency in Python or R for production environments, including writing model code.
  • Commercial judgment, with the ability to think in terms of incremental profit, LTV, CAC, and payback, and translate model outputs into actionable recommendations.
  • A scrappy, high-energy operator mindset, thriving in a fast-paced, resource-lean environment.
