About the Role

Solar Landscape is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented EPC Counsel to join its legal team and support a broad range of commercial contracts and legal matters related to the development, construction, procurement, and operation of commercial solar and energy storage projects. This role is ideal for a proactive attorney who enjoys working collaboratively across business functions, takes ownership of their work, and is interested in developing expertise in the renewable energy industry. The EPC Counsel will draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements, advise on project-related legal and compliance matters, and work closely with internal teams to support project execution and business objectives. The position offers an opportunity to independently manage routine legal matters while gaining exposure to complex transactions, negotiations, and strategic legal issues.

Responsibilities

  • Draft, review, and negotiate EPC agreements, construction subcontracts, professional services agreements, procurement and supply agreements, O&M agreements, amendments, assignments, and other commercial contracts.
  • Maintain and update standard contract templates.
  • Advise internal teams on contract interpretation, project delays, change orders, completion milestones, subcontractor and supplier performance, warranties, and other project-related issues.
  • Identify and evaluate contractual risks involving indemnification, insurance, limitations of liability, payment, termination, liquidated damages, and available remedies.
  • Develop practical recommendations consistent with company objectives.
  • Research and advise on applicable federal, state, and local requirements, including prevailing wage and apprenticeship, licensing, permitting, tax-credit-related compliance, and other regulatory matters affecting solar projects.
  • Assist with O&M, asset management, and other commercial agreements supporting Solar Landscape's construction and operational activities.
  • Support contract-related claims, payment disputes, subcontractor defaults, insurance matters, and litigation, including legal research, document review, and coordination with outside counsel.
  • Assist with contract assignments, consents, due diligence, and other transactional matters related to construction, procurement, and operations, as needed.
  • Partner with Procurement, Construction, Engineering, Development, Operations, Finance, and other internal teams to identify legal issues, provide practical, business-oriented advice, and support efficient project execution.
  • Contribute to developing standard negotiation positions, maintaining legal resources, and improving contract review and approval processes.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with a U.S. state bar.
  • 2+ years of relevant legal experience, with demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements.
  • Experience in construction, procurement, renewable energy, or an in-house legal department preferred.
  • Strong legal research, drafting, analytical, and negotiation skills, with the ability to identify material risks and propose practical, business-oriented solutions.
  • Sound commercial judgment and an understanding of how contractual provisions impact project costs, schedules, and business operations.
  • Ability to independently manage routine matters, prioritize competing deadlines, and recognize when issues require escalation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with legal and nonlegal stakeholders.
  • Proactive, resourceful, and detail-oriented, with a collaborative approach, sound judgment, and an interest in taking ownership of matters and growing within the legal team.
