About the Role

The Data Center Engineering team is responsible for the physical design of data centers, focusing on cutting-edge strategies, power usage, and environmentally-friendly facilities. This role involves optimizing for efficiencies, driving implementation, ensuring compliance with codes and standards, and developing infrastructure improvements as an expert in electrical systems. You will serve as the primary technical liaison during construction, resolving design ambiguities and providing engineering solutions to field-fit challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Define data center system-level, product architecture, and research and development, while helping to develop operations and maintenance procedures for systems/processes.
  • Conduct engineering analysis, research designs and methods of data center equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure designs and installations meet requirements (e.g., predicted cooling, structural, operational concerns, etc.).
  • Bring technical authority to the construction site. Serve as the bridge between design and execution, ensuring that complex power infrastructure is built safely and correctly.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in electrical engineering emphasizing power distribution and construction support for mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience with Low and Medium Voltage systems, including switchgear and transformers.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, work in the field wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and inspect equipment during critical construction phase.
  • Understanding of mechanical and control systems to facilitate effective cross-discipline collaboration.
  • Ability to translate complex engineering concepts into actionable instructions for field crews.
  • Ability to evaluate technical risks and make authoritative decisions under tight construction deadlines.
  • Ability to focus on electrical safety standards, particularly regarding medium voltage hazards.
  • Ability to analyze NETA reports and determine necessary mitigations, and manage contractors, lead technical resolution meetings, guide complex brownfield or greenfield installations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to navigate a complex matrix organization.
  • Resolve design ambiguities and provide engineering solutions to field-fit challenges.
  • Perform rigorous, periodic site walk-throughs, review installation quality to ensure strict adherence to engineered drawings and specifications.
  • Identify and resolve conflicts between design intent and physical site constraints before they impact the construction schedule.
  • Apply a deep understanding of local codes (e.g., NEC/NFPA) and industry standards to ensure every installation is compliant and safe.
  • Act as a technical mentor and advisor to electrical contractors, ensuring the RFI process is streamlined and technically sound.
