About the Role

We are seeking an engineer to own the entire platform for a medical product, including services, data, infrastructure, and security. The initial version is functional, but the focus is on making it trustworthy for clinical use by ensuring patient data safety, robust audit trails, and system resilience.

Responsibilities

  • Own the platform end to end: backend, data, infrastructure and security.
  • Prepare the platform for clinical use and maintain its reliability as the company scales.
  • Develop secure identity, access, and data handling systems suitable for clinics and auditors.
  • Make architectural decisions regarding development priorities, deferrals, and scope reduction.
  • Establish engineering standards and contribute to hiring future team members.

Requirements

  • Experience building and operating backend platforms from scratch through production incidents, data issues, migrations, and growth.
  • In-depth database knowledge, including indexing, locking, transactions, replication, zero-downtime schema changes, and successful backup restoration.
  • Proficiency in security best practices: authentication, authorization, tenant isolation, secrets management, and audit logging.
  • Expertise in identity management: identity providers, sessions, tokens, role-based access control, and user lifecycle management.
  • Strong skills in infrastructure management: infrastructure as code, containers, Linux, networking, and cloud technologies.
  • Ability to work across the full stack, including modifying application code when necessary.
  • Systematic troubleshooting skills, focusing on reproducing issues and addressing root causes using evidence from logs, traces, metrics, and query plans.
  • Experience with AI-native engineering practices, including using coding agents effectively.
  • Demonstrated ownership, including shaping roadmaps, challenging ideas, setting priorities, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Broad experience across multiple companies, stacks, or environments, valuing work methodology over years of experience.
