About the Role

Beacon is seeking a Tax Manager to own the tax function across its portfolio of software businesses in Canada and the United States. This senior, self-directed role is responsible for compliance, provision, indirect tax, and transaction tax across a growing, multi-entity, acquisition-driven group. You will own the technical tax agenda, lead external tax advisors, and help lead the tax workstream of the ASPE → IFRS conversion. This is a foundational role in building an internal tax capability that scales with growth.

Responsibilities

  • Own Canadian corporate income tax (T2) compliance, including installments, elections, and supporting schedules.
  • Own U.S. federal and state corporate income tax compliance across operating entities.
  • Maintain a portfolio-wide compliance calendar and ensure timely, accurate filings.
  • Coordinate cross-border tax matters with internal finance and external advisors.
  • Own sales tax, GST/HST, and U.S. state/local indirect tax compliance.
  • Lead multi-state nexus analysis and complete new state registrations.
  • Manage indirect tax setup, registrations, and account configuration for newly acquired entities.
  • Prepare and review current and deferred tax provisions for consolidated financial reporting.
  • Lead the tax workstream of the ASPE→IFRS conversion, including deferred tax under IAS 12.
  • Support the year-end audit on all tax matters and act as the primary point of contact with auditors.
  • Support deal structuring, including entity structure and cross-border considerations.
  • Review purchase agreements for tax provisions and support post-close tax true-ups and integration.
  • Onboard acquired entities into the tax compliance calendar, provision process, and control environment.
  • Own and lead relationships with external tax advisors, directing their work.
  • Partner with Corporate Finance to align tax data flows and reporting.
  • Work alongside the Director of Finance on tax planning, structuring, process automation, and ad hoc analyses.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA designation required.
  • Tax specialization — CPA In-Depth Tax (Canada) or U.S. CPA / EA equivalent.
  • 6+ years of progressive tax experience, ideally with Big 4 or a national accounting firm.
  • Hands-on experience with cross-border Canada/U.S. corporate income tax compliance.
  • Experience preparing and reviewing tax provisions and deferred tax (ASPE, IFRS/IAS 12, or U.S. GAAP).
  • Self-directed and technically authoritative — able to own the function and lead external advisors independently.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills, with high attention to detail.
  • Indirect tax experience (GST/HST, U.S. sales/use) and U.S. multi-state registration / nexus.
  • M&A / transaction tax experience, including deal structuring and post-close integration.
  • Experience in a multi-entity, acquisition-driven environment.
  • Direct experience with an ASPE→IFRS (or GAAP) conversion.
  • Experience working in software or SaaS industries.
  • Familiarity with NetSuite ERP or a similar multi-entity system.
