About the Role
As the Director, Consumer Insights & Analytics, you will establish a unified understanding of customers and business performance to drive growth decisions for core products and new ventures. You will collaborate across analytics and research teams to harmonize metrics, align on a shared customer view, and lead insights-driven decision-making at the senior leadership level. This role requires a leader who can blend strategy and storytelling with hands-on analytical ownership, focusing initially on consolidating disparate measurements and data to inform decision-making. You will also be accountable for official consumer metrics, build necessary dashboards and reporting, and synthesize cross-functional inputs into actionable insights.
Responsibilities
- Develop a deep familiarity with all data and research sources across Dow Jones, identifying gaps and limitations.
- Create a unified, coherent understanding of customers using existing and new data sources, making it digestible and actionable at an executive level.
- Own the definitions, governance, and official reporting of consumer metrics, establishing a consistent source of truth across departments.
- Build, maintain, and improve dashboards and recurring reporting to track the consumer business.
- Own the end-to-end business performance narrative, partnering with functional teams to investigate movements, test explanations, identify trends, and synthesize findings.
- Collaborate with analytics and insights colleagues in product, marketing, and Dow Jones newsrooms.
- Translate insights into recommendations for roadmap, pricing, and retention.
- Conduct proactive analyses and opportunity sizing to identify key subscriber and revenue growth opportunities.
- Track AI, platform, and consumer behavior shifts and feed signals into strategy.
- Identify opportunities to automate and enrich reporting using AI tools.
Requirements
- 12+ years of consumer-focused experience in strategic analytics, data, and/or insights roles.
- Experience at a top-tier consulting firm and/or a high-performing internal corporate strategy or insights team is preferred.
- Experience in a B2C subscription business is highly preferred, with a deep understanding of subscription drivers and metrics including conversion, starts, churn and retention, ARPU, CAC, and LTV.
- Demonstrated experience owning business-critical metrics, executive dashboards, and recurring performance reporting in a complex cross-functional environment.
- Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders and navigate complex organizations.
- Proficiency with SQL, data warehouses, and business-intelligence and visualization tools, with the ability to build and quality-control dashboards directly.
- Strong analytical judgment, including the ability to distinguish signal from noise, connect movements across a funnel, and select the right benchmark or comparison for a given metric.
- Fluency with AI and ideas about how to use it for synthesis and research; experience deploying AI tools across an analytics or strategy function is a plus.
- A deep interest in the future of media and content businesses and ideas about how to navigate it.
- Willingness to work in our Midtown Manhattan office at least 3 days each week.
- Media and/or content experience is a plus.
