About the Role
This role is responsible for setting up and running the day-to-day operations of a new AI and bio lab in London. You will establish the lab's operational systems from the ground up, ensuring consumables, deliveries, equipment, and purchasing are managed effectively. A key aspect of this role involves ensuring the provenance of data by meticulously capturing information related to consumables, storage, and handling, which directly impacts the quality of the data sold to customers.
Responsibilities
- Manage lab consumables, stock levels, and ordering.
- Oversee goods-in processes, including receiving, booking, and proper storage of deliveries.
- Maintain equipment service schedules, calibration records, and coordinate repairs.
- Manage supplier relationships, including raising purchase orders, tracking lead times, and obtaining quotes.
- Ensure lab floor cleanliness, waste management, and up-to-date safety records.
- Capture consumable lot numbers and storage conditions to contribute to the scientific record and data provenance.
- Define and help implement inventory, goods-in, asset register, and ordering systems.
- Collaborate with science, software, and operations teams to ensure data capture at the point of use.
- Support the expansion of the lab, including automation and new science verticals.
- Identify needs for future hiring or automation in lab operations.
Requirements
- Two or more years of hands-on experience running lab, stores, warehouse, or comparable physical operations.
- Proven ability in practical stock control, including goods-in, inventory records, reorder points, and reconciling stock counts.
- Experience purchasing from suppliers, including raising orders, comparing quotes, and managing lead times.
- Demonstrated careful record-keeping and the discipline to maintain accuracy.
- Comfortable being the point person for operational issues and supplier interactions.
- Ability to organize operations in a visible and effective manner.
- Willingness to adapt and take on responsibilities beyond the initial job description.
