About the Role
This role allows you to drive evidence-based decision making to optimize systems and efficiency for the business and customers, delivering data and research with visible impact on a large scale.
Responsibilities
- Lead the Data Engineering function responsible for designing, building and optimizing secure, scalable and governed data solutions.
- Set the technical direction for data architecture, integration, modelling and transformation.
- Ensure data pipelines and platforms provide reliable, timely and cost-effective access to information.
- Build and lead a high-performing technical team.
- Establish engineering standards and quality controls.
- Embed data governance, security and automation throughout the data lifecycle.
- Translate strategic and operational needs into robust data products while balancing delivery priorities, platform performance, compliance and long-term sustainability.
Requirements
- Extensive leadership experience in data engineering, data platforms and enterprise data management developed in large, complex organisations such as government, infrastructure, engineering, transport or similarly scaled environments.
- Strong knowledge of modern data architecture, data modelling, ELT/ETL, cloud technologies, data quality, governance, privacy and security.
- Record of improving engineering practices, platform performance and delivery efficiency.
- Recognised as a strategic and credible engineering leader.
- Ability to communicate complex technical matters clearly.
- Ability to influence senior stakeholders.
- Ability to lead high-performing multidisciplinary teams.
- Experienced in setting technical standards.
- Experienced in guiding architecture and design decisions.
- Experienced in managing competing priorities and enterprise dependencies.
- Experienced in creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, continuous improvement and professional growth.
