About the Role
As Program Manager, you will hold a single view of all commitments, ensuring consistency with strategic, commercial, and technology roadmaps. You will identify potential conflicts early and manage delivery through workstream leads and engineers, leveraging influence through planning and credibility.
Responsibilities
- Run milestone delivery end to end, owning the contracted schedule, success criteria, and baseline cost.
- Assemble technical and commercial evidence for review, secure sign-off, and trigger claims.
- Track procurement and manage subcontractors and academic partners against defined deliverables and resource commitments.
- Challenge optimistic estimates and ensure the critical path remains accurate.
- Maintain a working risk register with named owners and live mitigations.
- Present options and recommendations to the executive team when commitments conflict.
- Integrate contract results, constraints, and customer signals into IQM’s development planning.
- Flag deviations between funded scope and the company roadmap.
- Track the balance of scientific, technical, industrial, and commercial progress at each milestone.
- Collaborate with legal, IP, and commercial teams to shape IP, freedom-to-operate, and licensing strategy.
- Drive follow-on funding, continuation funding, customer contracts, and investment.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience running complex technical programs involving both hardware and software.
- Experience with at least one program valued at £5m or more with reporting obligations to an external funder or customer.
- Experience with milestone-based contracts, including defining milestones, building acceptance evidence, controlling cost and schedule, and managing subcontractors and academic partners with sensitive IP.
- Familiarity with the UK funding system, including expectations of assessors and auditors.
- Sufficient technical depth to understand quantum computing system architecture and challenge estimates.
- Ability to maintain calm under scrutiny and produce written reports that withstand assessor review.
- Proficiency in using PM software and AI tools for automation.
