About the Role
We are creating something new and looking for Product Owners to join our growing Direct Venture team. Each role will focus on a different aspect of the business and customer experience, with opportunities in areas such as quoting and underwriting, home and auto insurance products, digital policy servicing, billing and payments, and customer relationship management (CRM) and customer communication. You will have the opportunity to help shape what we build, how it works, and the experience we ultimately deliver to our members. The Product Owner is accountable for the success, performance, and evolution of an assigned insurance product or capability within Wawanesa’s direct-to-member (DTM) operations. As the primary business owner and subject matter expert, they lead product strategy, digital member experience, performance, roadmaps, priorities, and delivery outcomes. In a venture strategy environment, the Product Owner blends strategic thinking, hands-on delivery support, member needs discovery, and business decision-making. The incumbent collaborates with business analysts, Technology, Pricing, Underwriting, Claims, Operations, Member Experience teams, and other stakeholders to maintain competitive, compliant, effective products aligned with DTM objectives. The incumbent is responsible for product prioritization, scope, and intent, and makes product decisions on behalf of the company.
Responsibilities

- Target and prioritize improvements that enhance member experience, conversion, growth, retention, and efficiency, leveraging member insights, data, industry trends, regulation, and competition.

- Make trade-off decisions by balancing member experience, business value, timelines, and risk.
- Establish, track, and communicate key performance indicators (KPIs) and product objectives and key results (OKRs).
- Own and improve the end-to-end digital member experience, including quoting, purchasing, self-service, and retention, leveraging research and an iterative experimentation approach.
- Act as the product subject matter expert for coverages, underwriting guidelines, processes, and member journeys, ensuring solutions are delivered to product intent.
- Maintain product documentation, requirements, and reference materials.
- Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and governance requirements; assess legislative and industry changes and support activities related to risk, audits, quality, and controls.
- Build partnerships with Pricing, Underwriting, Claims, Operations, Member Experience, Marketing, Analytics, Compliance, and Technology teams to align objectives and priorities.
- Communicate priorities, decisions, performance, risks, and opportunities related to the product to stakeholders and management.
- Foster a member-centric, accountable, innovative, and continuously improving approach.
- Mentor, coach, and provide escalation support to associate product owners.
- Perform any other assigned duties.

- Over five years of product management experience or as a lead in the insurance industry (preferably P&C insurance).
- Experience leading product initiatives from concept to implementation in Agile environments.
- Experience evaluating product performance and making data-driven decisions; digital or direct-to-consumer distribution is an asset.
- Post-secondary degree in a related field or Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation or equivalent in the P&C insurance industry (preferred).
- Strong knowledge of P&C insurance products, coverages, underwriting principles, and operations.
