About the Role
As the first dedicated Data Scientist, you will own the data science function, building models and reporting to answer the firm's most important questions and presenting results to leadership. You will partner in setting new priorities and exploring new lines of inquiry, addressing concrete problems such as identifying early indicators of trader success, measuring and managing risk, forecasting headcount, and leveraging unstructured text data.
Responsibilities
- Build and maintain dashboards and reporting for leadership, traders, and business teams to track performance, risk, headcount, and firm-level metrics.
- Lead deep-dive analyses and predictive modeling on strategic questions, managing each project from framing to delivery.
- Apply NLP to unstructured text across the business, including internal communications, survey data, and external sources, to build classifiers, extract themes, and summarize at scale.
- Set research priorities directly with leadership and ensure alignment with firm strategy.
- Collaborate with a data engineering partner to ensure new datasets are fast, clean, and reliable.
- Work with technology and business teams to scope requirements and expand the firm's measurement capabilities.
- Introduce automation and forward-looking analysis into the firm's daily operating rhythm.
- Integrate AI and LLM tooling into the workflow for exploratory analysis, code generation, and unstructured data synthesis, and help define responsible usage guidelines.
Requirements
- Strong analytical judgment, including framing ambiguous problems, selecting appropriate methods, validating results, and clearly stating conclusions.
- Master's degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated experience.
- 4+ years in data science, analytics, or business intelligence, with independent ownership of end-to-end modeling work.
- Strong Python skills for analysis, statistical modeling, and visualization.
- Proficiency with SQL (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) for data querying and manipulation.
- Hands-on experience applying NLP and LLM-based methods to unstructured text at scale, including evaluating output quality and selecting appropriate approaches.
- Experience building dashboards in tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Streamlit, or Shiny.
- Strong command of metrics design, hypothesis testing, statistical inference, and predictive modeling, with a proven record of turning models into actionable outputs.
- Clear communication skills, with the ability to translate complex analysis into plain business terms for traders and executives.
- Self-sufficient and curious, capable of driving research and resolving complex problems independently.
- Rigorous but unconventional backgrounds are welcome.
