About the Role
IONOS Cloud runs on highly available, redundant block storage that needs to be fast, reliable, and deployed at scale. You will be responsible for the software behind it, utilizing the Linux storage stack rather than reinventing it. Your focus will be on provisioning.
Responsibilities
- Maintain and improve existing block storage provisioning.
- Design and develop the next generation of storage provisioning.
- Add monitoring and alerting for the provisioning workflow to detect errors early.
- Make provisioning robust against failures and reliably repeatable.
- Design and implement provisioning that keeps storage highly available and redundant, including failover.
- Analyze and resolve complex problems in the entire storage stack, from the Linux kernel to the provisioning layer.
- Gradually migrate from legacy components without impacting running systems.
Requirements
- Solid Go knowledge and several years of professional software development experience.
- Deep Linux knowledge including kernel, block storage, software RAID (MD), LVM, and Network Block Devices (NBD, RNBD).
- Experience with VMs (libvirt, QEMU, cloud-init), building VM images, and developing Kubernetes Operators.
- Practical C knowledge for reading and debugging low-level code.
- Proficient with Git, Docker, Shell, and CI/CD, including GitOps workflows (e.g., ArgoCD).
- Experience with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana) for monitoring provisioning and analyzing problems.
- Experience building highly available, redundant systems, including replication, failover, and fundamentals of distributed systems (idempotence, retries, consistency, error handling).
- Affinity for cloud environments and automation of infrastructure provisioning.
- Daily use of AI coding assistants (e.g., Claude) in development work.
- Strong analytical skills and a structured, independent working style within a team.
