About the Role

Serve as a senior technical advisor to city governments in the Americas, assisting them in designing, building, and launching small-scale pilots of new services for residents. Work with multidisciplinary teams to build in-house product development capability by prototyping and delivering digital products and services, many of which harness data and AI. Guide cities through the product development lifecycle, advising on strategic and technical trade-offs, system and data architecture, prototyping, testing, and the appropriate use of AI technologies.

Responsibilities

Act as a senior technical advisor to city governments.
Design, build, and launch small-scale pilots of new services.
Assist multidisciplinary city teams in building in-house product development capability.
Prototype and deliver digital products and services, including those using data and AI.
Guide cities through the full product development lifecycle.
Advise on strategic and technical trade-offs.
Design system and data architecture for scalability.
Prototype and test solutions to validate assumptions.
Determine the appropriate use of AI approaches like machine learning or large language models.
Prototype and demonstrate best practices.
Ensure clients understand the reasoning behind technical decisions.
Set technical direction for projects or small teams.
Guide other engineers.
Influence technical decisions not directly controlled.
Support organizations in building their technical capability through coaching or mentoring.

Requirements

Extensive hands-on technical experience.
Strong knowledge of system and data architecture, data pipelines, DevOps, and infrastructure.
Track record of delivering and deploying robust solutions end-to-end.
Experience with rapid prototyping and assumption testing.
Experience working in multidisciplinary teams.
Ability to explain technical ideas and trade-offs clearly to diverse audiences.
Experience influencing technical decisions.
Curiosity and flexibility in problem-solving.
Comfort working through ambiguity and uncertainty.
Professional working proficiency in English and in Spanish and/or Portuguese.
