About the Role
We are seeking a generalist infrastructure engineer to own the end-to-end infrastructure, focusing on cloud and storage. You will manage cloud architecture, fleets, petabyte-scale object storage, and associated data pipelines and CI/CD. This role involves making architectural decisions before scale becomes an issue, planning for future growth, and writing application code when necessary. You will also establish the infrastructure function in New York, setting technical direction, hiring, and growing the team, while remaining hands-on. You will collaborate closely with research and product engineering teams.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end infrastructure with cloud and storage at the center.
- Manage cloud architecture and the fleet it runs on.
- Oversee object storage for petabytes of gameplay video.
- Manage data pipelines and CI/CD.
- Make architectural decisions to prevent scaling emergencies.
- Plan for systems at 10x data, traffic, or team scale.
- Write application code for infrastructure needs.
- Build the infrastructure function in New York.
- Set technical direction for the infrastructure team.
- Hire and grow the infrastructure team.
- Define system design, review, deployment, and operational processes.
- Remain hands-on with infrastructure tasks.
- Collaborate with research and product engineering across General Intuition and Medal.
- Serve as the go-to person for system design.
Requirements
- Deep, hands-on cloud and storage experience in production environments.
- Experience managing Terraform, IAM, and Kubernetes on a major cloud.
- Experience with object storage at a scale where placement, tiering, and egress costs were key decisions.
- 6+ years of hands-on experience with planet-scale distributed systems (e.g., search infra, large scale storage or query systems, time series systems).
- Strong fundamentals in storage, query engines, and consistency.
- Proven track record of building infrastructure from scratch.
- Experience leading infrastructure teams while remaining hands-on.
- Experience setting technical direction and raising the bar for engineers.
- Experience hiring engineers.
- Ability to write code across the full stack, from low-level infra to application code.
- High agency and good judgment under ambiguity.
- Ability to prioritize effectively between research lab and live consumer product needs.
