Responsibilities
- Develop a suitable testing strategy for backend systems and ensure sensible test coverage across different testing levels.
- Design, implement, and maintain automated tests for APIs and microservices, ensuring stability and maintainability.
- Determine appropriate testing levels (unit, API/integration, end-to-end) and avoid duplication.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines, analyze test results, and identify errors and quality risks early.
- Analyze and debug failed and unstable tests, and continuously improve test frameworks and processes.
- Contribute to quality engineering efforts, identify quality risks, and determine where test automation adds value.
- Collaborate with developers, product owners, business teams, and other QA engineers to make quality a shared responsibility.
Requirements
- Completed degree in a STEM field, equivalent training, or relevant practical experience in software development or quality assurance.
- Solid experience in test automation with the ability to structure it for long-term maintainability, reliability, and scalability.
- Practical programming experience with Java, writing readable, maintainable test code.
- Familiarity with testing APIs and microservices, with a good understanding of distributed backend systems and synchronous/asynchronous communication.
- Familiarity with the fundamentals of event-driven architectures; experience with Apache Kafka or similar technologies is ideal.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and understanding of integrating automated tests into the development and delivery process.
- Ability to identify risks, question existing test coverage, and contribute ideas to improve testing strategy and automation.
- Independent, organized, and solution-oriented work style with a willingness to learn new technologies and subject areas.
- Confident communication of technical and quality-related topics with different stakeholders.
- Confident communication in German and English, ideally at B2 level or above.
