About the Role
We are looking for a Senior RAN Designer to join our RAN Engineering and Innovation team. This role is focused on improving wireless network performance, customer experience, capacity, reliability, and operational efficiency across 4G, 5G NSA, 5G SA, and emerging 5G Advanced capabilities. You will help evolve the wireless network toward more intelligent, cloud-enabled, and automated operations by assessing new technologies, validating vendor capabilities, developing engineering guidelines, and translating complex performance data into actionable network improvements.
Responsibilities
- Lead RAN performance optimization across 4G, 5G NSA, 5G SA, and emerging 5G Advanced network capabilities.
- Analyze network KPIs, counters, traces, configuration data, alarms, customer experience indicators, and traffic trends to identify improvement opportunities.
- Develop and validate optimization strategies for coverage, capacity, mobility, reliability, spectral efficiency, VoLTE/VoNR performance, and overall end-user experience.
- Apply statistical analysis and predictive analytics to support anomaly detection, forecasting, proactive issue identification, and data-driven engineering decisions.
- Design or contribute to automation workflows that improve repeatability and efficiency in parameter optimization, feature validation, KPI monitoring, reporting, and deployment readiness.
- Assess new RAN software releases, features, hardware platforms, spectrum deployments, and vendor capabilities to determine operational, performance, and customer-experience impacts.
- Support the introduction of new technologies such as 5G Advanced, RedCap, network slicing, massive MIMO evolution, small cells, FWA, private wireless, IoT, and energy-saving features.
- Create engineering guidelines, test plans, technical recommendations, deployment criteria, and operational handover documentation for new RAN features and capabilities.
- Collaborate with design, operations, core, transport, device, product, vendor, service assurance, and field teams to resolve complex technical issues and deliver on business initiatives.
- Contribute to the evolution of AI-assisted, cloud-native, and automated RAN operations, including closed-loop automation with human-in-the-loop governance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related technical field; a master’s degree is preferred.
- Several years of hands-on experience in wireless network engineering, RAN optimization, RF performance, network analytics, or a related telecom engineering role.
- Strong expertise in 4G, 5G NSA, 5G SA, and 5G Advanced RAN architecture, including radio resource management, mobility, air interface procedures, signaling, and 3GPP specifications.
- Hands-on experience with RAN KPI analysis, counter interpretation, parameter optimization, feature validation, software release assessment, and customer-experience improvement.
- Strong knowledge of RF engineering fundamentals, communications theory, massive MIMO, beam management, carrier aggregation, interference management, spectrum efficiency, and capacity optimization.
- Experience with RAN hardware and software configurations, including eNB, gNB, radios, active antenna systems, baseband capacity, feature activation, and vendor parameter management.
- Working knowledge of 4G and 5G protocols and interfaces, including TCP/IP, SIP, S1AP, NGAP, X2, Xn, GTP, Layer 3 signaling, and related call flows.
- Experience applying statistics, probability, AI/ML, or predictive analytics to network performance, capacity forecasting, anomaly detection, quality improvement, or operational-efficiency use cases.
- Ability to build or contribute to scripts, dashboards, APIs, data pipelines, and automation tools that reduce manual engineering effort and improve operational efficiency and consistency.
- Working knowledge of Python, SQL, shell scripting, Power BI or equivalent BI tools, network performance platforms, and large-scale operational datasets.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex technical investigations, assess alternatives, make data-supported recommendations, and deliver high-quality outcomes in time-sensitive situations.
- Ability to translate complex technical analysis into clear recommendations, executive summaries, deployment guidelines, and engineering decision support.
- Strong collaboration, communication, documentation, and presentation skills, with the ability to work effectively across engineering, operations, vendor, and business teams.
- Ability to continuously learn emerging technologies, assess industry developments, and apply them pragmatically in a production wireless network environment.
- Preferred: Experience with Ericsson RAN platforms, including feature roadmaps, counters, parameters, software releases, and configuration management.
- Preferred: Familiarity with autonomous network concepts, closed-loop automation, and human-in-the-loop validation for production network changes.
- Preferred: Awareness of Open RAN architecture, RAN Intelligent Controller concepts, rApps/xApps, SMO, O-Cloud, open interfaces, and multi-vendor interoperability.
- Preferred: Understanding of cloud-native network principles, including virtualization, containers, Kubernetes concepts, observability, APIs, and software-defined infrastructure.
- Preferred: Knowledge of service assurance, customer-experience analytics, geospatial analytics, or advanced visualization techniques.
- Preferred: Experience supporting network capabilities such as network slicing, RedCap, Cat-M, NB-IoT, FWA, private networks, small cells, or energy-aware RAN optimization.
