About the Role
Luzern Risk is seeking a Senior Accountant to join their accounting team. This role will execute the day-to-day operations of captive insurance financials, manage the close cadence for clients, interact directly with clients, and collaborate with the technology team to automate workflows. The ideal candidate is motivated to develop captive expertise, has a builder's mindset, and operates with urgency.
Responsibilities
- Own monthly and quarterly close activities for a book of captive participants, including journal entries, reconciliations, premium and loss accounting, intercompany activity, and financial statement preparation.
- Serve as a day-to-day point of contact for client finance teams, addressing questions, explaining financials, and following through on requests.
- Partner with the technology team to codify accounting workflows into the Luzern Risk platform, identifying repetitive manual work, proposing automations, and adopting new tools.
- Build and maintain clear documentation for accounting processes to ensure repeatability and scalability.
- Support annual audits, regulatory filings, and domicile-specific reporting requirements for captive clients.
Requirements
- 5 to 10 years of professional accounting experience
- Insurance accounting experience required; captive insurance accounting experience is a strong plus
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Comfort working directly with clients and presenting financial information
- Demonstrated interest in financial systems, automation, and technology adoption
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to work core hours that overlap with US Eastern time
- Open to traveling to HQ in New York a few times a year
