About the Role
The Vice President of Construction is the senior operating leader responsible for turning contracted work into safe, well-executed, profitable projects. This role owns construction delivery from project turnover through closeout and leads the project management, field supervision, and construction support teams. The top priority is leading the expansion of FacilityIG's industrial-commercial electrical business.
Responsibilities
- Lead all construction operations across the company's industrial and commercial electrical and facility improvement portfolio.
- Set the operating standards, expectations, and rhythm for project managers, superintendents, foremen, crews, and construction support staff.
- Provide hands-on leadership in the field, including regular jobsite visits, constructability input, and support on complex or at-risk projects.
- Translate company strategy into clear construction priorities, staffing plans, and execution capability.
- Own project delivery from contract turnover through closeout, including schedule, scope, cost, quality, and client satisfaction.
- Oversee a portfolio of approximately 85 concurrent projects across multiple sites and states, balancing resources, crews, and priorities.
- Establish disciplined project turnover, planning, scheduling, procurement, and closeout practices.
- Ensure all electrical scopes are planned and executed to code and to plan.
- Identify at-risk projects early and lead corrective action with project teams.
- Own construction margin performance, including job-cost tracking, forecasting, and earned-value discipline.
- Partner with estimating and preconstruction to ensure bids are buildable, properly staffed, and priced for the risk.
- Drive change-order management, billing accuracy, and cash-flow discipline across the portfolio.
- Review monthly project financial reports and hold project teams accountable to budget and forecast.
- Lead, develop, and hold accountable an organization of approximately 50 employees.
- Recruit, hire, and retain strong electrical construction talent to support growth.
- Build a bench of future project and field leaders through coaching, training, and clear career paths.
- Design the construction organization structure needed to support a larger and more complex industrial-commercial electrical portfolio.
- Champion a safety-first culture and ensure compliance with safety requirements on every job.
- Own safety performance metrics and lead incident review, root-cause analysis, and corrective action.
- Identify and manage contractual, schedule, labor, and execution risks across the portfolio.
- Ensure appropriate licensing, permitting, and inspection practices in every jurisdiction.
- Establish and enforce quality standards, inspection processes, and punch-list and closeout discipline.
- Ensure work meets the National Electrical Code, local code requirements, client specifications, and company standards.
- Drive first-time quality and reduce rework, warranty callbacks, and repeat deficiencies.
- Serve as a senior executive point of contact for key clients, selected general contractors, and national program partners.
- Build long-term client relationships through reliable execution, clear communication, and fast issue resolution.
- Manage subcontractor and supplier performance, capacity, and relationships.
- Support business development by representing construction capability in client meetings, pursuits, and program reviews.
- Standardize project management, field reporting, scheduling, and cost-control processes across the portfolio.
- Leverage construction management and reporting tools to improve visibility, accountability, and decision-making.
- Develop repeatable playbooks for multi-site program rollouts and larger industrial-commercial electrical projects.
- Continuously improve productivity, labor utilization, and operating efficiency.
- Use company-approved AI tools daily to review schedules and forecasts, analyze project financials, draft reports and correspondence, and automate recurring construction reporting.
- Set the expectation that project managers, superintendents, and construction support staff use AI tools in their daily work, and hold them to it.
- Identify construction workflows where AI can reduce overhead, and lead the adoption.
- Assign and reassign project managers, superintendents, foremen, and crews across the portfolio.
- Hire, develop, discipline, and terminate construction staff in coordination with company leadership and HR.
- Approve project schedules, staffing plans, execution approaches, and corrective-action plans.
- Select, approve, and manage subcontractors and suppliers within approved budgets.
- Approve change orders and project-level expenditures within established limits.
- Stop work for safety, quality, or compliance concerns.
- Recommend organizational, process, and system changes to executive leadership.
Requirements
- Proficient, daily, hands-on use of AI tools (such as Claude and Microsoft Copilot) to do the work, and the ability to learn new AI tools as the company adopts them.
- Approximately 10 to 15 years of electrical construction experience, including a field background and senior management of multi-team project portfolios.
- Demonstrated success leading industrial and commercial electrical construction, ideally including data centers, manufacturing facilities, warehouses and distribution centers, general contractor partnerships, or multi-site retail and convenience programs.
- Experience leading organizations of approximately 50 or more employees across project management, field supervision, and craft labor.
- Track record of managing large, concurrent project portfolios across multiple sites and states.
- Strong business acumen, including job costing, forecasting, margin management, and contract and change-order management.
- Deep working knowledge of the National Electrical Code, OSHA, and NFPA 70E requirements.
- Proficiency with construction management, scheduling, and project reporting tools.
- Bachelor's degree in construction management, electrical engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent field and leadership experience will be considered.
- Master or journeyman electrician license, PMP, or PE preferred but not required.
- Willingness to travel regularly to project sites.
- Field-credible leader who earns respect on the jobsite and in the boardroom.
- Entrepreneurial and adaptable; thrives in a mid-sized, growing company where priorities evolve.
- Builder of teams, systems, and culture, not just a manager of projects.
- Direct, accountable communicator who sets clear expectations and follows through.
- Strong commercial judgment; understands how execution drives margin and client loyalty.
- Calm, decisive problem-solver under schedule, cost, and safety pressure.
- Uncompromising commitment to safety and quality.
