About the Role
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) works alongside individuals to help them achieve their Personal Outcomes by developing daily living, professional, and decision-making skills, while supporting their overall health and safety.
Responsibilities
- Works with individuals to help them identify and realize their personal life goals.
- Advocates with individuals in a variety of situations.
- Works with individuals to teach them new life skills.
- Works in partnership with individuals to promote their health and safety.
- Assists individuals to overcome barriers and challenges to establishing and maintaining relationships and social roles.
- Works with individuals and the interdisciplinary team to develop service plans.
- Provides positive behavior support as necessary.
- Prevents, recognizes, and reports abuse.
- Accurately documents service provision, daily notes, and other required information.
- Promotes and supports community involvement.
- Transports clients to locations outside the home using an agency vehicle.
- Performs healthcare-related tasks as needed.
- Ensures all required documentation is completed and processed appropriately and in a timely manner.
- Administers bedside or personal care as needed.
- Assists with personal care and hygiene.
- Cares for individuals during periods of incapacitation, family disruption, or convalescence.
- Performs housekeeping duties, such as cooking, cleaning, washing clothes or dishes, or running errands.
- Plans, shops for, or prepares nutritious meals or assists individuals in planning, shopping for, or preparing nutritious meals.
- Communicates in a respectful manner with all people.
- Complies fully with confidentiality policies.
- Meets all safety training requirements and adheres to all safety policies.
- Meets all job requirements for participating in or delivering training.
- Adheres to FREE’s standard of ethical behavior.
Requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
- Must satisfy criteria to be a driver for the agency.
- Loss of driving privileges may result in change of work location, shift, weekly hours, or termination of employment.

- Proficient computer skills preferred.
- Proficient writing skills with grasp of basic grammar and spelling.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with flexibility.
- Ability to keep others informed and anticipate needs.

- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch or stand on a stool as needed.
