About the Role

The Risk Strategy team partners with investors and managers to enhance decision-making through quantitative analysis, judgment, and clear, actionable insights. This role involves translating complex analytics, aligning risk with conviction, and providing an objective lens on portfolios within the market context. Risk Strategists act as coaches and force multipliers, making complex data accessible and actionable to help investors meet client expectations and develop investment talent.

Responsibilities

  • Apply quantitative analysis, risk models, stress testing, and scenario analysis alongside judgment and curiosity to help investors align risk with conviction and make better decisions.
  • Proactively identify and communicate changes in portfolio risk dynamics, concentrations, and unintended exposures.
  • Design and conduct risk analysis and research, orchestrating data and translating complex information into clear, actionable insights that inform portfolio decisions and strengthen investment skill.
  • Ensure risk reporting, dashboards, and analytical tools are robust, scalable, and decision-useful; identify outliers or emerging concerns and partner with technology and data teams to improve the underlying analytics and processes.
  • Partner with investors and managers to integrate analytics into coaching and development, fostering reflection and continuous learning.
  • Contribute to broader investment risk oversight, bringing portfolio insights and emerging areas of concern into Risk Strategy and Investment Platform discussions.
  • Contribute to Wellington’s risk culture by mentoring colleagues and promoting disciplined, thoughtful risk-taking.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in portfolio analysis, risk management, or quantitative investment analytics
  • Proven ability to partner effectively with investors and senior stakeholders, bringing clarity and insight to complex discussions
  • Strong fixed income market knowledge and understanding of the risk drivers inherent in hedge fund strategies, with demonstrated expertise across rates, credit, derivatives, and other relevant instruments and markets.
  • Deep understanding of portfolio construction, fixed income markets and risk analytics, including the drivers of portfolio risk across different market environments.
  • Proficiency in Python; vsCode Copilot, GitHub Copilot, or other AI coding platforms; SQL; and market data tools (e.g., FactSet, Bloomberg)
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and synthesize complex data into clear, actionable recommendations
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills—able to translate technical concepts into meaningful insights
  • A proactive, collaborative mindset with the ability to influence without authority and coach others toward better decision-making
  • Demonstrated experience constructively engaging with Portfolio Managers, traders, and other risk takers to surface and address risk considerations when needed.
