About the Role
As EMR continues to grow and evolve, we're looking for an experienced and proactive Fire Safety Manager to help strengthen fire safety standards across our UK operations. Operating across metal recycling, processing and export facilities, fire risk management is a critical part of keeping our people, sites and communities safe. In this role, you'll take the lead in identifying and managing fire risks, introducing effective prevention measures and driving continuous improvement across the business. Working closely with our operational and SHEQ teams, you'll provide expert technical advice, support the implementation of fire safety improvement programmes and help embed best practices across our sites. You'll also play an important role in building strong relationships with external regulators, including the Environment Agency and Fire & Rescue Services. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who enjoys being hands-on, working collaboratively with different teams and making a real difference in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of fire risk management strategies across EMR's UK recycling, processing and export facilities.
- Provide expert technical advice on fire detection, prevention, suppression and firefighting systems, including associated technologies and equipment.
- Manage and deliver fire safety improvement projects, ensuring effective controls, procedures and standards are implemented consistently across sites.
- Partner with operational and SHEQ teams to identify risks, support fire safety training, carry out assurance activities and investigate fire-related incidents.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulatory bodies, including the Environment Agency, Fire & Rescue Services and relevant industry associations.
- Drive continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to strengthen fire prevention measures, improve operational practices and ensure regulatory compliance.
Requirements
- Hold a relevant qualification in fire risk management, occupational safety or a related discipline.
- Proven experience managing fire risks within industrial environments handling bulk materials, ideally within the waste, recycling or similar sectors.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of fire prevention measures, including Fire Prevention Plans (FPPs), detection and suppression systems and relevant fire safety equipment.
- Experience working with regulatory bodies, particularly the Environment Agency and Fire & Rescue Services.
- Exposure to the HSE, SEPA, NRW or port authorities would be advantageous.
- Be a confident communicator who can build strong working relationships, influence stakeholders and collaborate effectively with operational teams at all levels.
- Take a proactive, solutions-focused approach, with the ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and deliver improvements in a fast-paced environment.
