The postholder will work with programme, operations, and finance colleagues to maintain reliable records of commitments, actual expenditure, and forecast costs, transforming data into clear management information, identifying financial and delivery risks, and supporting evidence-based decisions about judicial and magistrates training. The role will also improve reporting processes through automation, documented controls, and consistent data standards.
Responsibilities

- Ad hoc monitoring of judicial fee records, including fee activity, payment information, outstanding items, coding, and supporting evidence.
- Prepare and update regular forecasts for judicial and magistrates training costs, including fees, venues, and other programme expenditure.
- Support budget setting and reforecasting by collating planned activity, testing cost assumptions, and translating operational plans into financial profiles.
- Maintain complete and orderly financial records, trackers, reconciliations, audit trails, version control, and documented working papers in line with agreed team processes.
- Produce regular and ad-hoc performance and financial analysis for senior managers, programme teams, and other stakeholders.
- Support the accuracy of month-end processes by reviewing transactions, commitments, accrual information, and forecast records, and by highlighting missing or incorrectly coded items.
- Contribute flexibly to wider Performance, Projects, and Reporting Team priorities and provide cover for core reporting and finance activities when required.
Requirements
- Experience of financial reporting, budget monitoring, forecasting, or management accounting support in a complex organisation.
- Experience of managing or analysing fees, payments, expenditure, commitments, or similar transaction-level financial information.

About the Company
- The Judicial Office (JO) reports to, and is accountable to, the Lady Chief Justice (LCJ). It was established in 2006 to provide support to the LCJ and to the wider judiciary in upholding the rule of law and in delivering justice impartially, speedily and efficiently, following the Constitutional Reform Act 2005.
- The JO supports, and is accountable to, the Senior President of Tribunals, whose responsibilities extend to Scotland and Northern Ireland.
- The JO is an interesting and unique place to work. Everything we do is in support of upholding the independence and impartiality of the judiciary. We work closely with HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS), the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) and others across Government as well as with the legal professions.
- We are an Arm’s Length Body sponsored by the Ministry of Justice. This creates an interesting and complex environment in which to work where we agree our priorities with the senior judiciary and receive our funding to deliver them from the Ministry of Justice. The Judicial Office has been through a period of significant growth resulting from an expansion of our remit and responsibilities.
- The Performance, Projects and Reporting Team supports the Judicial College with performance reporting, financial planning, fee management, management information and data-led decision-making. The team works across judicial and magistrates training, helping colleagues understand delivery, expenditure, forecast pressures and emerging risks. It maintains reporting products and financial records that support operational delivery, budget control and senior assurance.
Equal Opportunity
- As a Disability Confident employer, MoJ are committed to providing everyone with the opportunity to demonstrate their skills, talent and abilities, by making adjustments throughout all elements of the recruitment process and in the workplace.
- The Civil Service is committed to attract, retain and invest in talent wherever it is found.
- Civil Service departments are expected to explore redeployment opportunities before making an individual redundant. The MoJ is committed, as part of the Redeployment Interview Scheme, to providing opportunities to those who are 'at risk of redundancy'.
