About the Role
Story produces high-end commercial and branded content, alongside original scripted fiction and nonfiction projects. The Head of Production will lead and build the production operation, overseeing projects from commercial campaigns and documentaries to original films and series.
Responsibilities
- Lead production at Story, ensuring projects deliver exceptional work on time and on budget.
- Build and lead the production team, including hiring, mentoring, and managing staff.
- Establish a culture of ownership, resourcefulness, and high standards.
- Find creative solutions to difficult production challenges and overcome obstacles.
- Manage multiple productions, balancing competing schedules, budgets, and resources.
- Oversee production budgets, cost control, vendor negotiations, and profitability.
- Develop relationships with exceptional crew, vendors, locations, and production partners.
- Build systems, workflows, and processes to scale production capabilities.
- Partner with creative leadership to translate concepts into executable production plans.
- Personally lead complex shoots and support the team where needed.
Requirements
- Extensive experience producing high-end commercials, branded content, documentaries, or scripted film and television productions.
- Experience leading teams.
- Understanding of the demands of client-driven commercial work and original film/TV production.
- Experience managing both large-budget and lean, independent shoots.
- Exceptional resourcefulness in overcoming production challenges.
- Experience overseeing multiple productions simultaneously.
- Strong leadership skills, including hiring, delegation, and setting high standards.
- Deep experience managing production budgets, negotiating with vendors, and protecting profitability.
- Strong network of trusted crew, production partners, and vendors.
- Ability to build efficient production systems and workflows.
- Strong creative instincts and understanding of exceptional work.
- Calm under pressure, decisive, and willing to take responsibility.
- Based in the SF Bay Area or willing to relocate.
