About the Role

Design the customer experience of a next-generation product and solution selection tool, enabling sellers, partners, and customers to select, configure, and quote Armstrong products and solutions. Research, design, and test key parts of the user journey, transforming user needs into clear, simple designs.

Responsibilities

  • Design assigned parts of the user journey, from early concepts to detailed, build-ready designs.
  • Plan and run user research, including interviews, observation, and usability tests, and share clear findings.
  • Design guided selection and configuration flows that simplify product and rules complexity.
  • Design for complex work, ensuring users do not lose work and always know the status of a quote or order.
  • Write clear, human-readable error, validation, and status messages.
  • Design how pricing, availability, and lead-time information is displayed.
  • Build prototypes to test ideas with users early and refine designs based on feedback.
  • Apply and contribute to the design system, including components, patterns, and accessibility standards.
  • Work within the team's Agile cadence, turning designs into user stories and acceptance criteria.
  • Support developers during the build process and review the result against the design.
  • Run usability testing before and after release, tracking task completion, error rates, and user feedback.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Human-Computer Interaction, Interaction or Industrial Design, Cognitive Psychology, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience in UX or product design for complex web applications.
  • Experience designing B2B transactional tools such as configure-price-quote (CPQ), product configurators, e-commerce, or ERP/CRM front ends is strongly preferred.
  • Experience designing for several user groups with different roles and needs.
  • Experience in HVAC, building systems, or industrial equipment is an asset.
  • Strong interaction design and information architecture skills for data-dense, multi-step workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with user research and usability testing methods.
  • Advanced skills in design and prototyping tools (e.g., Figma) and experience working with a design system.
  • Working knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG 2.2).
  • Working knowledge of how web front ends are built, enough to work effectively with developers.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain design decisions clearly and concisely.
  • Customer-focused with a genuine interest in how sellers and customers work.
  • Detail-oriented and committed to quality.
  • Collaborative and open to feedback.
  • Comfortable working closely with developers and analysts.
  • Ability to communicate in an open and authentic manner in all situations.
