About the Role
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to maintain the physical systems behind our platform, including kiosks, edge compute, networking, power, cameras, and access control. This role is crucial for ensuring smooth operations and enabling faster, more repeatable site launches as our footprint expands.
Responsibilities
- Monitor site uptime and health across the kiosk fleet, and drive the patterns behind repeat failures to zero
- Troubleshoot hardware in the yard — edge compute, cameras, ID readers, displays, networking, power, enclosure — remotely where possible and on-site when it isn’t
- Contribute to the next kiosk hardware revisions: component and layout changes, downstream impact on enclosure and access-control hardware, and power resilience including UPS sizing and failover
- Own factory acceptance testing with our hardware manufacturers and site acceptance testing for new site launches
- Deliver site-specific solutions, including integrating our access-control platform with customer-operated security and video management systems
- Build configuration utilities and automation so a kiosk goes from crate to live without a specialist, and maintain the kiosk documentation — interconnect, network, power, accessories — plus on-call runbooks
- Participate in an on-call rotation, and help improve monitoring and alerting for field hardware
Requirements
- 3+ years in systems engineering, field engineering, edge infrastructure, IT infrastructure, or a similar hands-on role supporting production hardware in the field
- Hands-on experience supporting Ubuntu or other Linux-based systems, including remote access, log review, and command-line troubleshooting
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot across hardware, firmware, operating systems, networks, and applications, and to isolate a root cause rather than swap parts until it works
- Working knowledge of Ethernet networking, IP addressing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, and cellular connectivity
- Practical understanding of PoE, power supplies, power distribution, UPS and backup power, and recovery from power interruptions and brownouts
- Experience supporting fleets of remote, unattended, or distributed systems, including remote monitoring, alerting, and recovery
- Experience with IP cameras and access control hardware — installation, configuration, aiming, and calibration
- Scripting ability sufficient to automate configuration and provisioning tasks (Python, Bash, or similar)
- Experience writing and maintaining technical documentation — interconnect and wiring diagrams, network and power documentation, installation standards, and runbooks
- Willingness to travel to sites for launches, installations, and escalations, and to participate in an on-call rotation
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams, including Field Operations and customer-side IT and security staff
- Experience with factory acceptance testing, site acceptance testing, or commissioning new installations a plus
- Experience integrating with customer-operated video management or security systems (Genetec, Milestone, Avigilon, Verkada, or similar) a plus
- Experience with NVIDIA Jetson, industrial PCs, single-board computers, or other edge compute platforms a plus
- Experience with Tailscale, Teltonika, Ubiquiti, or comparable remote access and networking equipment a plus
- Experience with kiosks, machine vision, industrial automation, or IoT systems a plus
- Experience with equipment deployed outdoors or in semi-controlled environments, including enclosures, mounting, and thermal considerations a plus
