About the Role
Taktile is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer focused on Developer Productivity and Developer Experience to enhance the efficiency of AI coding agents and internal engineering processes. This high-leverage role on the Platform Team aims to optimize the path from code commit to production, making CI fast and reliable, simplifying the serverless stack, and improving deployment metrics.
Responsibilities
- Build and own deployment services for tens of thousands of stack deployments weekly across various environments.
- Implement progressive rollouts, deployment gates, and fast rollback mechanisms.
- Maintain and extend in-house AI engineering agent (Claudius) for CI failure investigation and issue triaging.
- Package Taktile's engineering knowledge for engineers using sandboxed AI setups (metadev).
- Own and optimize the build → test → merge loop, reducing CI runtime and flakiness.
- Evolve CI/CD architecture, improving GitHub Actions workflows, self-hosted runners, caching, and parallelism.
- Shorten the inner development loop for the AWS Lambda stack, enabling faster local development and testing.
- Ship self-service tooling, templates, and CLIs to streamline module development.
- Design tooling for both humans and AI agents, ensuring speed, determinism, and trustworthiness.
- Own and measure DevProd metrics such as PR lead time, CI runtime, and CI flakiness.
- Take ownership of the Claudius AI engineering agent and define its future direction.
- Act as a customer advocate for engineers, managing incidents, writing documentation, and driving migrations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience with a track record of shipping and operating production systems.
- Proven ability to lead technical projects across teams.
- Strong, production-grade skills in at least one backend language (Python preferred).
- Experience writing software for tools, services, bots, and CI logic.
- Hands-on experience owning CI/CD at scale (e.g., GitHub Actions), including build/test performance, caching, parallelization, and debugging.
- Solid AWS experience, particularly with serverless (Lambda, SAM/CloudFormation) and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
- Comfort with AI coding and agent-orchestration tools (e.g., Claude Code, OpenCode).
- A product mindset for internal tooling, focusing on user adoption and time saved.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills to drive cross-team changes.
