About the Role
We are seeking a Director, Data & Analytics to lead how Ritual measures its business as it expands from a DTC-first brand into an omnichannel one. You will own answering key leadership questions regarding business growth, marketing investment effectiveness, and capital allocation. Reporting to the SVP, Product & Engineering, you will lead a team of analysts and data engineers, partnering with leaders across the business. You will be responsible for scaling the data platform, growing the team, and shaping its future.
Responsibilities
- Own Ritual's omnichannel measurement, building and running a connected view of customer value and acquisition cost across DTC, Amazon, marketplaces, and retail.
- Explain channel interactions, including halo, cannibalization, and market expansion versus demand shifting.
- Own the read on marketing investment, partnering with Omnichannel Media VP to plan, test, and optimize the media budget.
- Own the measurement ecosystem across MMM, attribution, geo-lift, and incrementality, including the impact of upper-funnel investment.
- Measure every channel on the same terms, bringing retail and Amazon measurement up to DTC standards.
- Cover sell-in versus sell-through, distribution and velocity, promotions, syndicated and panel data, and new-to-brand customers.
- Shape decisions at the top by serving as the executive voice on business performance for CGO, CFO, and leadership.
- Own the reporting the business runs on, partner with Finance on planning, mine insights, and build artifacts for planning, budget, and board conversations.
- Lead and build the team, growing analysts into domain experts and coaching them to build influential analysis and narratives.
- Lead data engineering and own the evolution of the stack and project architecture.
- Check that work ladders up to Ritual's goals, protect team capacity, and selectively take on ad-hoc asks.
Requirements
- 8+ years in analytics, data science, or marketing measurement, including several years leading lean, technical data teams.
- Credibility on pipeline, modeling, and data-quality tradeoffs.
- Hands-on marketing measurement expertise across MMM, multi-touch attribution, incrementality testing, and geo-lift.
- Track record of using marketing measurement to rationalize upper-funnel spend.
- Experience measuring marketing efficiency at a consumer brand selling both DTC and through retail, including marketplace channels.
- Experience with subscription or e-commerce economics, cohort retention, and cross-channel effects.
- Retail data experience, including POS and sell-through data, retailer data portals, syndicated and household panel data, and reconciling sell-in to consumer takeaway.
- Demonstrated executive influence and storytelling, with a portfolio of analyses and executive artifacts that changed decisions at the C-suite or board level.
- Experience coaching analysts to produce influential analysis and artifacts.
- Deep experience with dbt and a modern data stack (Snowflake and a BI semantic layer, with Omni a plus), as a hands-on practitioner or manager.
- Ability to turn complex, multi-channel analysis into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Comfort defending analysis and recommendations in executive settings.
- Ability to identify incorrect data and communicate findings clearly and kindly.
- Ability to negotiate calmly and constructively when priorities compete, holding to data while remaining open to others' needs.
- Ability to see DTC, marketplace, and retail as one portfolio, thinking in contribution profit and understanding the interplay of media, distribution, and retention.
- Ability to turn messy datasets into sharp narratives and teach others to do the same.
- Experience leading a lean data team within a growing business with multiple internal customers.
- Ability to listen closely to both the team and the business, finding a balance between their needs.
- Ability to grow analysts into leaders and be credible with engineers on data platform tradeoffs.
