About the Role

Norm is seeking a Director of PR & Communications to build and lead an external communications program that strengthens the reputations of both Norm and Norm Law, our affiliated AI-native law firm. This role will establish a clear, credible voice at the intersection of AI, legal services, regulation, and business. Reporting to the Head of Marketing, you will own PR and communications across the broader Norm organization, shaping how our founder, executives, Norm Law leadership, and partners communicate with key audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Advance the Norm Law narrative, shaping how the firm communicates its differentiated model, practice-area expertise, client value, and role in the future of legal services.
  • Translate narratives into executive and partner communications, creating social content, essays, op-eds, speeches, talking points, and public positions.
  • Lead media relations by building relationships with reporters and managing inbound requests, proactive outreach, interviews, and follow-up.
  • Define messages and guardrails, maintaining core narratives, proof points, Q&A, spokesperson guidance, and sensitive-issues frameworks.
  • Prepare spokespeople by creating briefing materials, leading preparation sessions, staffing interviews, and ensuring consistent and credible communication.
  • Own the operating process by establishing clear intake, evaluation, approval, tracking, and escalation processes for various communication opportunities.
  • Lead partners and manage risk by directing external communications agencies, holding partners accountable, identifying emerging issues, and navigating client confidentiality and reputational risk.

Requirements

  • 8+ years experience leading PR, corporate communications, executive communications, public affairs, or media relations.
  • Track record of serving as a trusted communications adviser to founders, executives, senior partners, or other high-profile subject-matter experts.
  • Exceptional writing and editorial judgment, including experience ghostwriting executive or partner social content, speeches, essays, op-eds, and bylines.
  • Strong media instincts and experience building productive relationships with top-tier reporters and managing external agencies.
  • Judgment to navigate sensitive topics, client confidentiality, reputational risk, complex approvals, and highly scrutinized claims.
  • Ability to translate technical, legal, regulatory, or policy-heavy subjects into clear and compelling public narratives.
  • Strong operational ownership and ability to build effective systems in a fast-moving environment with evolving priorities.
  • Experience supporting a law firm, legal-services organization, professional-services business, or other partner-led environment (Nice to Have).
  • Familiarity with AI, legal technology, financial services, government, or regulation (Nice to Have).
  • Established network across business, technology, AI, legal, policy, or government media (Nice to Have).
  • Experience supporting major company milestones, law-firm launches, practice-area growth, fundraising announcements, or regulatory developments (Nice to Have).
