About the Role
Own the scaling and operation of Sigma’s sales compensation process, ensuring accurate, timely, and audit-ready payouts. Build automation, controls, and reporting to align compensation with business results as Sigma grows. This role is for a self-starter who thrives on ownership, brings structure to ambiguity, and collaborates effectively across departments.
Responsibilities
- Own sales compensation administration end to end, including participant setup, plan distribution, commission calculation and validation, payment confirmation, and submission to payroll.
- Identify and address anomalies before payroll, holding payments when necessary to prevent overpayment, and meticulously tracking and documenting exception decisions.
- Investigate and resolve crediting errors, quota misalignments, payout disputes, and escalations, providing root cause analysis and recommended solutions to leadership.
- Support commission accruals, expense reporting under ASC 340-40, and roll-up reporting during Finance’s month-end close.
- Administer and validate compensation for both committed bookings and consumption, including commit, ramp, and true-up logic.
- Implement quota rules, crediting structures, accelerators, SPIFs, and payout policies as plans evolve.
- Develop clear plan documents, policies, and FAQs to simplify complex compensation logic for sellers and managers.
- Manage Sigma’s compensation platform in collaboration with the broader team, ensuring clean data flow between Salesforce, HRIS, and the compensation system.
- Validate data against systems of record prior to each payout cycle.
- Create reporting and dashboards within Sigma to provide visibility into attainment and payouts for sellers, managers, and Finance.
- Identify opportunities for AI and automation to streamline tasks such as anomaly detection, exception sorting, and data reconciliation.
- Establish controls, repeatable workflows, and documentation to ensure audit readiness as Sigma scales.
- Partner with Finance, Revenue Operations, People, Payroll, Legal, and Data teams, prioritizing the seller experience, risk, and compliance.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for compensation escalations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of hands-on sales compensation administration experience, preferably in fast-scaling SaaS companies.
- Experience with consumption-based or hybrid (commit + usage) compensation models and understanding of how plan mechanics influence seller behavior.
- Working knowledge of quotas, target incentive (OTI), accelerators, overlays, SPIFs, and crediting rules.
- Advanced proficiency with Salesforce, Sigma, and spreadsheet tools for modeling and analysis.
- Strong data validation skills with a history of identifying anomalies and presenting clear recommendations.
- Ability to influence cross-functional partners without direct authority.
- Capacity to explain complex logic to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfort using AI tools daily, with a practical understanding of automation's benefits and limitations.
- Exceptional attention to detail and a strong systems mindset.
- Ability to manage reliable processes with minimal oversight.
- Bonus: Hands-on experience configuring a modern compensation tool (e.g., CaptivateIQ, QuotaPath).
- Bonus: Exposure to ASC 340-40 or audit controls.
