About the Role

Bike Club is seeking a fractional Product Lead to guide the member product, translate customer needs and business goals into a clear strategy and prioritized roadmap, and achieve measurable improvements. This role involves senior Product leadership combined with hands-on discovery and delivery coordination within a lean team. The Product Lead will also establish an AI-driven Product function, leveraging AI to accelerate customer insight, discovery, prototyping, and experimentation, identifying opportunities to enhance member experience or business efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Own the direction and roadmap for the member lifecycle, including joining, subscription management, ongoing membership, exchange, and retention, balancing member value with operational efficiency, cost, and business priorities.
  • Lead discovery efforts with members and cross-functional teams (Marketing, Customer Service, Operations, markets) using research, behavioral data, and service insights to define problems before developing solutions.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and the retention owner on lifecycle journeys, retention initiatives, experiments, and shared metrics, with Product owning the supporting experience and requirements.
  • Translate agreed priorities into clear requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria, maintaining a prioritized product backlog that includes operational improvements and approved AI or automation initiatives.
  • Develop proportionate investment cases outlining expected benefits, costs, dependencies, and measurement plans, recommending the cessation or deferral of work with insufficient value.
  • Coordinate with Engineering to establish delivery commitments based on realistic estimates and available capacity, and manage stakeholder alignment, adoption, and launches with the QA and Delivery role, ensuring risks and changes are visible.
  • Support Marketing with content, landing page, and experimentation capabilities, defining the boundaries between member product, CRM, and support tools.
  • Routinely utilize AI for research synthesis, analysis, requirements development, prototyping, and experiment design, validating findings against customer evidence.
  • Prioritize valuable AI applications with cross-functional teams, test assumptions, and build business cases, ensuring customer-service automation supports the broader member journey.
  • Share responsibility with Marketing for using AI to support lifecycle insights, proposition testing, and retention experiments, measuring customer and commercial impact.
  • Document the roadmap, backlog, ways of working, and AI approach to ensure continuity and facilitate a clear handover at the end of the engagement.

Requirements

  • Extensive Product Management experience, including owning a digital product roadmap and delivering measurable customer and commercial improvements, preferably in a subscription, membership, or related consumer business.
  • Strong discovery skills, including customer interviews, journey mapping, data interpretation, problem definition, and testing assumptions before investment.
  • Commercial judgment to compare value, effort, cost, and risk, build practical investment cases, and make clear prioritization decisions.
  • Ability to lead across functions, constructively challenge senior stakeholders, and maintain focus amidst competing priorities.
  • Experience collaborating with Engineering, Design, Marketing, Customer Service, and Operations through delivery, launch, and continuous improvement.
  • Demonstrable experience integrating AI into Product workflows, with examples of accelerated learning, improved decision-making, or reduced effort.
  • Ability to distinguish valuable AI applications from those that add unnecessary complexity.
  • Proven track record of working independently and effectively in a part-time, fractional, or interim capacity, demonstrating visible progress within limited working days.
  • Capacity to start quickly and provide clear documentation and repeatable working methods.
