About the Role
We are seeking a high-impact Product Management leader to expand the CDU product family strategy for Trane Technologies’ data center business. This role requires a leader who will co-develop alongside GPU manufacturers before chips ship, speaking the language of hyperscalers fluently and compressing time-to-market as a competitive advantage. This is a player-coach role — you will own the full product lifecycle for our CDU portfolio while building and mentoring a product management team as the business scales. You sit at the exact intersection where market intelligence, customer requirements, engineering capability, and manufacturing reality must converge — and you are the one who makes that happen.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end CDU product family strategy — assessing existing product performance against competitor landscape, identifying gaps across cooling capacity tiers (from sub-100kW to multi-megawatt), and building a prioritized roadmap to fill them
- Define the Trane Technologies CDU portfolio architecture across deployment types (in-rack, in-row, end-of-row, perimeter) and heat exchanger configurations (liquid-to-liquid, liquid-to-air), aligned to hyperscaler, colo, and enterprise customer segments
- Drive modularity and scalability as core design principles — enabling customers to deploy incrementally and upgrade CDUs and servers while keeping facility TCS loop infrastructure in place for 10–15 years
- Evaluate build vs. buy vs. partner options for filling portfolio gaps, including co-development relationships with GPU manufacturers (NVIDIA, AMD) and OCP reference architecture participation
- Conduct voice-of-customer research, competitive benchmarking, and market sizing to inform go/no-go investment decisions; translate ML/AI workload trends into CDU infrastructure product requirements
- Drive stage-gate reviews and ensure product development milestones are met on time and within budget across the full CDU NPI lifecycle, working in close collaboration with engineering and manufacturing leaders
- Translate customer and market requirements into detailed product requirements that engineering and manufacturing can execute against, with clarity on performance specs, reliability targets, cost constraints and design for manufacturing priorities – engaging manufacturing engineering upstream
- Partner with supply chain on component sourcing strategy, make-vs-buy decisions and supplier qualification for critical CDU subsystems
- Develop product positioning, pricing strategy and customer-facing technical content in partnership with sales and marketing; define go-to-market approach
- Serve as the primary commercial-technical interface for Trane Technologies’ most strategic CDU customer relationships, including hyperscalers, colocation providers, and AI infrastructure integrators
- Develop fluency in hyperscaler procurement and specification processes — including how customers build CDU requirements from ASHRAE TC 9.9 standards, OCP Project Deschutes specifications, and chip vendor thermal roadmaps
- Engage directly with GPU manufacturers (NVIDIA, AMD) and OCP working groups to co-develop or validate CDU reference architectures ahead of next-generation chip releases
- Rapidly prototype commercial and product experiments — pre-validated solution bundles, modular deployment kits, cooling-as-a-service models — learning and scaling what works
- Lead, coach, and develop a growing product management team; model strong PM craft including voice-of-customer discipline, data-driven roadmap decisions, and cross-functional influence without authority
- Define team operating cadence, tools, and processes to support a scaling CDU product portfolio; build PM talent as the business expands
Requirements
- Direct experience with data center liquid cooling systems — CDUs, rear-door heat exchangers (RDHx), immersion cooling, or direct-to-chip cold plate technology
- Familiarity with hyperscaler procurement and specification processes; existing relationships with AWS, Google, Microsoft, Meta, or Oracle infrastructure teams
- Demonstrated experience owning a hardware product portfolio from concept through commercialization — including requirements definition, PGT or cross-functional engineering collaboration, and production launch
- Understanding of CDU system architecture: TCS/FWS loop design, pump sizing, redundancy (N+1), leak detection, BMS/DCIM integration, and controls
- Strong technical fluency in fluid systems, heat transfer, or electromechanical product design — enough to earn credibility with engineering teams, engage meaningfully with hyperscaler infrastructure architects, and co-develop with GPU manufacturers
- Experience influencing cross-functional teams without direct authority across engineering, operations, and commercial functions
- Financial acumen — ability to build business cases, model pricing, and connect product decisions to P&L impact
- Comfortable in a player-coach role: willing to do hands-on PM work while developing others
- Excellent communication skills — able to synthesize complex technical and market information for executive and customer audiences
