About the Role
As a Senior Software Engineer on the platform team at Everfox, you will work as a high-performance individual contributor, amplifying the work of others. The platform team is responsible for embedded software running on hardware appliances and full-stack on-prem web applications. Approaching everything from a security-first perspective is crucial, with a deep understanding of cybersecurity, as the software runs on hardware-based security appliances for critical infrastructure and defense.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain embedded Linux software written in C++, Rust, and Python
- Ensure high unit and automated test coverage
- Debug system-level issues involving multiple software and hardware components
- Lead technical work, breaking down requirements into smaller tasks
- Collaborate and communicate effectively within the team and across engineering organizations
- Document technical information clearly for other developers
- Enable and unblock other developers, acting as a force multiplier
- Leverage large language models to assist with development tasks and review work
- Take ownership of development tasks and complete work to a high standard
- Reduce ambiguity by understanding requirements and scoping into smaller pieces of work
- Ensure technical information is communicated clearly
- Ensure less senior developers are not blocked
- Leverage CI and automated testing for frequent integration of changes
- Clearly highlight and communicate project risks or uncertainties
Requirements
- Typically 5-7 years of experience as a software engineer, or a track record of strong ability and effectiveness
- An undergraduate degree in computer science, or a science/technology/engineering/mathematics related field
- Proven ability to lead technical work: implement features from requirements through design, implementation, test, and release
- Coordinate with hardware designers and other software teams
- Unblock and enable other developers as a force multiplier; mentor other developers
- Clear communication is a must
- Document requirements, implementations, and specs clearly

Skills
- Modern C++17 (and later) for resource-contained, security-critical devices
- Python development for tools, test frameworks, and on-prem web services
- Debugging system-level issues across a whole stack of software components
- Thorough understanding of modern cryptography and cybersecurity
- Experience designing CI workflows (automated/unit testing, GitLab, Docker)
- Experience using LLMs to assist in development, review, and testing
- Experience with Rust is beneficial, but not critical
- Experience with OS hardening or mandatory access control policy, such as SELinux, is beneficial but not critical
- Experience orchestrating multiple agents to complete large development tasks is beneficial but not critical
