About the Role
As Senior Data Product Manager, you will own the roadmap, requirements, and priorities for a portfolio of data products, acting as the primary liaison between business stakeholders and data teams. This role focuses on translating business needs into actionable data products that drive investment decisions, client reporting, regulatory submissions, and AI use cases.
Responsibilities
- Engage the business and shape demand by building strong relationships with stakeholders and identifying opportunities for data products.
- Lead demand intake, challenging requests to understand the core business problem and use case.
- Act as the voice of the data consumer, ensuring products are designed for user needs.
- Own requirements and data product definition by translating business needs into clear, outcome-driven requirements and user stories.
- Define data products, including purpose, consumers, business definitions, critical data elements, source systems, and service levels.
- Collaborate with data engineering and analysis teams to define data contracts, quality rules, and lineage.
- Identify data needs and dependencies early in change initiatives.
- Prioritize the roadmap and backlog for the data product portfolio, aligned with the data strategy.
- Balance new change, BAU enhancements, and technical debt, reporting clearly on progress and resource use.
- Make and communicate scope decisions, including saying no or not yet when necessary.
- Drive adoption and measure value by defining and tracking success metrics such as adoption, data quality, timeliness, reuse, and business benefit.
- Lead acceptance, launch, and adoption processes, ensuring products are tested, documented, and published.
- Gather consumer feedback to improve products, retire low-value outputs, and consolidate overlapping data sets.
- Enable AI-ready data products by working with Analytics and AI teams to ensure clear business definitions and semantic models.
- Utilize AI-assisted tools to accelerate requirements analysis, data discovery, and documentation with human oversight.
Requirements
- Significant experience in data product management, product ownership, or senior business data analysis within Asset Management or Financial Services.
- Strong knowledge of investment data, including instruments, portfolios, positions, transactions, performance, client, and reference data across public or private markets.
- Proven track record of owning a data product roadmap and backlog, making clear, value-based prioritization decisions with senior stakeholders.
- Excellent requirements analysis skills, with the ability to translate ambiguous business needs into clear requirements, data definitions, and acceptance criteria.
- Confidence in engaging and influencing senior business stakeholders, including constructively challenging requirements and managing competing priorities.
- Good understanding of data management and governance, including data quality, lineage, data contracts, cataloguing, and critical data elements.
- Sufficient technical understanding of modern data platforms (e.g., Snowflake), data modeling, and ELT to work credibly with engineers and assess feasibility.
- Collaborative approach, working effectively with Data Engineering, Analytics, AI, Delivery, Testing, and offshore colleagues.
