About the Role

Join a three-person mobile high-level access team supporting reactive repairs, remedial works, planned preventative maintenance (PPM), and additional works across the London Fire Brigade estate and wider ABM locations. Responsibilities include transporting, positioning, erecting, inspecting, dismantling, and using mobile access towers, as well as providing controlled access support to specialist engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Attend planned, reactive, remedial, PPM, and additional works requiring tower or controlled access.
  • Confirm required working height, equipment configuration, ground conditions, and site constraints before work.
  • Transport access equipment securely in the assigned Nissan Primastar L2 van.
  • Complete vehicle and load checks before travel and report any defects.
  • Carry out pre-use checks, assemble, and dismantle towers per manufacturer instructions.
  • Complete required inspection after assembly and before first use.
  • Maintain inspection records and report defects.
  • Coordinate with specialist engineers, site representatives, schedulers, supervisors, and other trades.
  • Ensure task-specific RAMS are in place, detailing lone working permissions, second-person requirements, contact, and emergency arrangements.
  • Support ABM subcontractors with controlled access where it reduces external hire and improves cost control.
  • Obtain site or customer sign-off where required.
  • Submit inspection records, RAMS, photographs, timesheets, and defect reports promptly.
  • Use mobile working time effectively, including accurate timesheets and travel records.
  • Support the wider ABM business when LFB workload permits, while prioritizing LFB response, PPM, remedial, and compliance.

Requirements

  • Current PASMA Towers for Users qualification, or ability to obtain.
  • IPAF or other equipment-specific certification where required, or ability to obtain.
  • Demonstrable experience working at height, with mobile access towers, site set-up, safe assembly/dismantling, and inspection records.
  • Practical understanding of Work at Height Regulations 2005, PUWER 1998, manual handling controls, PPE requirements, risk assessment, and safe systems of work.
  • Ability to prepare clear task-specific RAMS or inputs under supervision.
  • Ability to assess ground conditions, overhead services, access routes, exclusion zones, weather, public interfaces, vehicle movements, and rescue requirements.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across London Fire Brigade estate and wider ABM locations.
  • Ability to undertake manual handling associated with tower transport and assembly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with specialist engineers and other trades.
  • Ability to work independently when permitted, recognizing when a second person is required.
  • Experience working in operational, public-sector, critical-environment, or occupied-building settings is desirable.
  • Experience supporting electrical, mechanical, HVAC, fabric, or other specialist trades is desirable.
