About the Role
Ship AI-powered products across a portfolio of ventures. This is product engineering with unusual scope, where you'll help identify which problems matter, own the journey from discovery to production, and stay accountable for measuring and improving real-world outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Own the outcome, end to end, taking ambiguous customer and venture problems through discovery, prototyping, production, measurement and iteration.
- Take on focused missions across the portfolio, moving between ventures at different stages of maturity and adapting to each context while delivering in close collaboration with the venture.
- Extend x15’s AI-native engineering capability by using coding agents and AI-enabled workflows to improve development speed, testing, iteration and software quality.
- Build AI products that hold up in the real world by designing, evaluating and operating systems using the right mix of models, agents, tools and deterministic software.
- Make modern AI work in a high-trust environment by designing for sensitive data, existing platforms and complex integrations, with security, privacy, testing, observability and appropriate controls built in from the outset.
- Turn experimentation into evidence by working with product, design, venture leaders and customers to test assumptions, evaluate outcomes and decide what warrants further investment.
- Build shared product and platform foundations where they create real leverage, developing reusable AI services, integration patterns and architecture that help multiple ventures move faster or operate more safely.
Requirements
- Have repeatedly shipped significant software products and can explain your personal technical, product and delivery contribution.
- Can work hands-on across the full stack and become effective quickly in unfamiliar products, codebases and technology stacks.
- Show strong product judgement, finding the underlying problem, challenging assumptions and making sensible trade-offs between customer value, commercial value, complexity and speed.
- Use AI-assisted development as a core part of your engineering practice and understand how to build and evaluate AI-powered systems without being tied to a particular framework.
- Know the difference between a clever prototype and a dependable product, using AI where it creates measurable value and choosing a simpler or deterministic approach when it is better.
- Navigate security, privacy, risk, legal, platform and organisational constraints pragmatically, working with specialists to resolve issues and keep delivery moving.
- Hold strong technical opinions loosely, explaining trade-offs, challenging approaches constructively and changing your mind when the evidence warrants it.
- Adapt across ventures, domains and technical environments while carrying useful lessons and capabilities into the next mission.
- Demonstrated experience, scope and impact matching Senior, Staff, or Principal engineer levels.
- Building and evaluating AI-powered applications using models, tool use, retrieval, agentic workflows and appropriate evaluation techniques.
- Designing and operating cloud-native applications, APIs and integration-heavy systems.
- Building secure, high-trust products in financial services, fintech, healthtech or other regulated environments.
- Working in startups, venture studios or product teams where rapid experimentation and production delivery go hand in hand.
