About the Role
The Busser provides essential support to the service team by keeping tables and dining areas clean, stocked, and ready for guests. This role works closely with servers, hosts, captains, kitchen staff, and management to keep service running smoothly and efficiently. The ideal candidate is hardworking, attentive, responsive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
Responsibilities
- Support servers and the front-of-house team throughout service to ensure a smooth and efficient guest experience.
- Clear unnecessary plates, glassware, and other items from tables while maintaining a clean, comfortable dining environment.
- Remain available on the floor and respond to guest needs, referring requests to a server or manager when appropriate.
- Assist with running food and other service-related tasks as directed.
- Deliver dishes to the appropriate table or dining area and, when appropriate, communicate menu items to guests.
- Help ensure guests have necessary items for their meal, including additional plates, utensils, napkins, and other service items.
- Set and reset tables according to restaurant standards and reservation needs.
- Coordinate with hosts and servers to identify tables that need to be prepared or turned over.
- Prepare tables with appropriate glassware, plates, utensils, and other items based on guest needs and reservations.
- Assist with special setups, including items needed for seafood, wine, beverages, and other menu selections.
- Communicate with servers, hosts, and management regarding tables that are ready for guests or the next seating.
- Help maintain fully stocked and organized service stations throughout the shift.
- Replenish cups, plates, silverware, chopsticks, napkins, tea supplies, beverages, and other service items as needed.
- Monitor and replenish restaurant supplies, including takeout containers, bags, utensils, and other packaging materials.
- Keep work areas, service stations, and dining areas clean and organized.
- Assist with running food from the kitchen to the appropriate table or dining area.
- Ensure dishes are presented appropriately before being delivered to guests.
- Communicate with kitchen and front-of-house team members regarding orders and food delivery.
- Assist with kitchen and dishwashing-area tasks as assigned.
- Transfer used dishes and dish tubs to the appropriate dishwashing area when needed.
- Assist with preparing takeout orders, ensuring orders are complete and properly packaged according to the receipt.
- Complete assigned opening, closing, and side-work duties.
- Assist with trash removal and maintain clean and organized work areas.
- Perform other duties reasonably assigned by management.
Requirements
- Previous restaurant, hospitality, or customer service experience preferred but not required.
- Friendly, dependable, and service-oriented approach.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a fast-paced, team-oriented restaurant environment.
- Strong attention to detail and willingness to take initiative.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English; Cantonese or Mandarin language skills strongly preferred.
- Additional language skills are a plus.
- Ability to remain active and attentive throughout the shift.
- Comfortable learning restaurant procedures, menu items, and service standards.
- Reliable and punctual with flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must possess, or be able to obtain, a valid California Food Handler Card, as required for the position.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout a shift.
- Ability to frequently bend, reach, stoop, push, pull, and move throughout the restaurant.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, and transport dishes, trays, glassware, supplies, and other restaurant items.
- Ability to carry and maneuver dish tubs, bus carts, and service supplies as needed.
- Ability to safely navigate stairs and work across multiple levels of the restaurant.
- Ability to work efficiently in a busy environment while safely carrying food, dishes, and other items.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks such as clearing, resetting, stocking, and cleaning throughout a shift.
- Ability to communicate effectively with guests and team members in a busy restaurant environment.
