About the Role

As a Hardware Engineer on the Autonomy Platforms team, you will architect, source, build, and bring to life the key hardware systems that enable autonomy on our machines. You will collaborate with various engineering teams to drive consensus on critical HW system functionality and decomposition, ensuring the platform meets high performance standards and operates reliably in harsh environments.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, characterizing, integrating, and validating autonomy hardware.
  • Defining system and component level HW architecture for autonomous machines.
  • Establishing and leading relationships with external vendors to deliver critical components and systems.
  • Collaborating with other HW platform engineers to create a cohesive, high-performance, flexible, and modular system.
  • Working with the safety team to establish requirements and performance metrics for components and systems.
  • Writing reusable, high-quality data analysis and test automation software.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
  • Hands-on experience with design and testing of autonomy HW (sensing, compute, HMI, connectivity, machine control interfaces).
  • Strong foundational knowledge in electrical design, high and low-speed communication protocols, power electronics, bring-up and testing, and deployment of hardware systems in rugged outdoor environments.
  • Experience leading large HW development programs from ideation through proto, EVT, DVT, and production stages.
  • Experience with high-performance/power edge compute (x86, ARM) including power and cooling.
  • Experience with common autonomous sensing technologies (lidar, camera, radar, RTK GNSS, IMU).
  • Experience with remote operator stations (ergonomic interfaces, low latency display, safety-critical design).
  • Experience with HMI deployment in rugged environments (screens, tablets).
  • Experience with packaging and integration strategies for high-performance HW systems in rugged environments (shock/vibe, temperature, IP, solar loading).
  • Experience with high-speed signaling (GMSL, multi-gigabit ethernet, RF).
  • Proficiency in compiled (C/C++/Rust), shell (linux bash), or runtime (Python) languages for prototyping, debugging, testing, data collection, analysis, and reporting.

About the Company

  • At Bedrock, we're moving AI out of the lab and onto real job sites.
  • Our team includes veterans who helped launch Waymo, scaled Segment to a $3.2B acquisition, and grew Uber Freight to $5B in revenue.
  • We retrofit the heavy equipment contractors already own, starting with excavators, so experienced crews can safely take on more projects and deliver them more predictably.
  • In August 2026, Bedrock-equipped excavators began doing fully autonomous, paid work on live commercial job sites.
  • We've more than doubled our customer base since 2025, and our machines now work with contractors across the West, South, and Midwest.
  • In October 2026, we raised a $600M Series C co-led by CapitalG and Emergence Capital, bringing our total funding to nearly $1B.
  • We're using it to put more autonomous machines to work, build the field and operations teams behind every deployment, and expand into new machine types and job-site tasks.
  • This is where algorithms meet steel-toed boots.
  • You'll work alongside construction veterans and world-class engineers to solve physical-world problems that simulations can't touch.
  • If you're ready to do meaningful work on hard problems, we'd love to have you join us.
