About the Role

Personal data is central to Clay's operations, sourced from various channels including a data provider marketplace, proprietary B2B datasets, AI agent research, and customer-provided records. Ensuring trust in how Clay handles this data, especially with the development of AI agents, is paramount. This role focuses on building and managing Clay's privacy program, with an emphasis on the operational aspects of AI governance. You will report to the Head of Product, Privacy & AI Legal, collaborating closely with Product, Engineering, Data Platform, Data Partnerships, Security, Marketing, and Sales teams. While the Legal team establishes standards and makes legal decisions, you will translate these into practical processes, records, and tools suitable for Clay's dynamic environment. This position offers the opportunity to create a privacy program that serves as a competitive advantage for Clay, integrating existing privacy efforts into a cohesive program with clear ownership, robust operations, and verifiable outcomes. A key objective is to automate routine tasks, enabling Product and Engineering teams to concentrate on development.

Responsibilities

  • Own the program plan, translating Legal's privacy strategy into a prioritized plan with defined owners, dependencies, and short- and long-term outcomes.
  • Flag potential issues regarding ownership or capacity for ongoing work.
  • Maintain Clay’s records of processing for both product and internal operations.
  • Define privacy requirements for the data inventory managed by the GRC team, covering sources, uses, recipients, storage, retention, and restrictions.
  • Conduct privacy and AI assessments, including PIAs, DPIAs, transfer and legitimate interests assessments, and AI assessments, managing them from initial fact-gathering through follow-up actions.
  • Facilitate privacy and AI reviews within the EPD product development process to ensure timely and consistent feedback, escalating critical questions to Legal.
  • Manage the operational aspects of AI governance, maintaining records of AI usage in Clay's products and internal tools.
  • Gather evidence on the control mechanisms for agent features and ensure review conditions and customer guidance remain current with evolving models and permissions.
  • Conduct privacy due diligence for data providers, marketplace partners, and vendors during onboarding, changes, renewals, and offboarding.
  • Maintain the subprocessor list and customer-facing notices.
  • Manage privacy rights requests (access, deletion, correction, opt-out), including California Delete Act (DROP) requests, across all relevant systems using the Transcend privacy platform, ensuring all requests are closed with supporting evidence.
  • Translate approved retention rules into a system-by-system map with technical owners and coordinate necessary adjustments with Engineering and Data Platform.
  • Ensure public-facing privacy notices, subprocessor lists, and other commitments to customers and regulators accurately reflect current data processing practices.
  • Support incident response efforts in collaboration with Legal and Security teams.
  • Automate routine tasks using Clay and AI tools.
  • Develop concise, role-specific training materials.
  • Report program metrics to Legal and EPD leadership.

Requirements

  • 6 to 8+ years of experience in building and managing privacy programs or privacy operations within a technology company, preferably in high-growth B2B SaaS, data, or AI sectors.
  • Hands-on experience with privacy requests, data mapping, PIAs and DPIAs, vendor due diligence, and consent management.
  • Working knowledge of GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other US state privacy laws, with the ability to exercise sound judgment and involve Legal when necessary.
  • AI fluency, including an understanding of how LLM features and agents utilize data, and the practical application of frameworks such as the EU AI Act.
  • Technical fluency, enabling the ability to trace data across systems and APIs and formulate precise questions for engineers.
  • Demonstrated success in building a program from inception and ensuring its adoption by teams outside of direct reporting lines.
  • Proficiency in clear, concise writing and a commitment to leveraging AI and automation to minimize routine tasks.
  • CIPM or equivalent certification.
