About the Role
Step Up is seeking a visionary and results-driven Chief Revenue Officer to lead resource innovation initiatives and architect the organization's future financial growth. This role is responsible for designing and executing a comprehensive revenue strategy to scale the annual budget from $4 million to $6 million by 2030, focusing on diversifying funding models and developing new revenue streams.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary architect of Step Up’s financial future, aligning all revenue-generating activities with our 2027–2030 strategic roadmap to scale the organization to $6 million.
- Develop, lead, and execute a multi-year financial growth strategy aligned with the 2027–2030 roadmap, driving the organization to its $6 million by 2030 milestone.
- Oversee the comprehensive fundraising portfolio, providing strategic direction to team members leading our established revenue streams: Individual Giving, Corporate Philanthropy, Events, Government Funding and Foundation Grants.
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, partnering closely with the CEO and the Board of Directors to cultivate a culture of philanthropy, Scalable Reach, and Brand Prominence.
- Grow corporate partnerships into six- and seven-figure multi-year commitments.
- Establish clear, measurable KPIs for the revenue team and provide regular forecasting, pipeline analysis, and executive reports.
- Lead our Resource Innovation efforts by expanding beyond our traditional funding models, building robust new channels that ensure long-term financial sustainability with no single donor source above 25% of the revenue.
- Design, launch, and manage a comprehensive planned giving program, identifying and cultivating legacy prospects to build long-term financial sustainability for Step Up.
- Establish an endowment fund to support planned giving.
- Build and fully operationalize Donor Advised Fund (DAF) infrastructure including DAF giving options across all channels, sponsor relationship and grant tracking and acknowledgement processes.
- Build a major gifts program that will make up 30% of the revenue goal by 2030.
- Lead compliance on public grants and agreements: signing authority, contract terms and reporting deadlines.
- Architect a strategy to identify, apply for, and secure local, state and federal revenue sources, expertly navigating government grants and public-private partnerships.
- Continuously scan the philanthropic and economic landscape to identify innovative funding models and untapped market opportunities.
- Act as a premier ambassador and frontline relationship builder for Step Up, directly securing high-level investments while maximizing the fundraising impact of executive leadership.
- Work with the board chair and governance committee to maintain board giving expectations and recruit board members who bring giving capacity and access.
- Manage a personal portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, major corporate partners, and foundation funders.
- Build relationships with elected officials and public agency leaders in Step Up’s anchor cities to open public funding opportunities and keep Step Up visible to local government.
- Position the CEO and key board members for high-leverage donor interactions, providing meticulous briefing materials, strategic guidance, and seamless follow-through.
- Champion and empower a multi-disciplinary revenue team, providing the mentorship and operational infrastructure necessary to execute a highly successful $6M+ fundraising operation.
- Build, mentor, and directly manage a high-performing revenue team spanning events, institutional, and individual giving, fostering an environment of accountability, innovation, and continuous professional growth.
- Ensure the infrastructure, data management (CRM), and operational systems are deeply integrated and capable of supporting our scaled revenue operation.
- Work with the Chief Communications Officer on donor-facing brand, sponsor recognition, and sponsorable event components.
- Work with the Chief Programs Officer and Regional Directors so each region raises money locally.
- Represent Step Up at local, regional and national events and meetings, and travel as needed.
- Support cross-functional and collaborative working groups or special projects as organizational needs arise and priorities evolve.
- Contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven culture focused on continuous improvement and impact.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit fundraising, advancement, or revenue generation, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership or C-suite role.
- A record of personally closing six- and seven-figure gifts and multi-year corporate commitments.
- Demonstrated success in scaling organizational revenue, specifically with experience leading a team through a significant growth phase.
- Comprehensive knowledge of traditional fundraising pillars (Corporate, Foundations, Individual, Events) combined with deep expertise in establishing planned giving programs from the ground up.
- A proven track record of securing and managing local, state, or federal government funding.
- A track record of building a team and a culture of accountability around revenue goals.
- Exceptional communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate Step Up’s mission of mentorship and empowerment into compelling, urgent cases for support.
